Contest #157: One thing about me people misunderstand

Life is full of different kinds of people and no matter what you do, you can never please people. There will be certain people who dislike how you run your life, some may call it pride, while some will disagree. This is why we shouldn't live our lives based on what people say or think. It's a free world though, people are free to have different thoughts about you but don't let that define who you are.

Since my childhood, I have learned that "silence is golden", it pays more time to be silent than to respond to every situation. And I have adopted this since childhood till now, I don't talk when it's not necessary. I prefer to keep my cool and remain silent putting people in suspense because they don't know my thoughts but immediately you talk, it is easier to get to you even before concluding your conversation.

People misunderstand my silence to be pride and sometimes anger which is not true. Keeping quiet most times doesn't mean I'm proud neither does it mean I'm angry but people don't see it from my point of view. Silence means you are wise, it means you are mature, and talking only when necessary portrays a good picture of you rather than someone who is always talking loosely and carelessly.

The words in our mouths are just like an egg that when dropped cannot be molded back, this is why it is always advised to choose our words carefully. The words spoken are powerful weapons, this is why being careful before saying anything is of great importance. The words some people spoke have landed them into trouble, many are in prison not because they committed the crime they were accused of but because they said what they were not supposed to say.

For this reason, I have always chosen silence over talking carelessly and people consider it as Pride because they don't know my thoughts nor do they know my next move. I sat somewhere last week and two ladies beside me were discussing throughout their discussion I didn't interfere because that's what I disliked most, I don't involve myself in things that I am not invited into. After they were done, they both stared at me and one of them said "This lady is so proud, she acted as if she hadn't seen us since we sat here".

I just smiled and walked away because to them I am proud but what I did was respect myself in order not to get embarrassed. If I had joined their conversation, I might have been embarrassed because they didn't invite me to do so, and when I kept silent, they regarded it as pride. They misunderstood my silence for pride.

Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.
