I Wish Pegasi Existed | LOH Contest #87

This week, the Ladies of Hive community brought us fun questions for the weekly contest. I’ll be taking up only one of them.

What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?

What’s cooler or more awesome than a flying horse? Just picture an immaculate white horse soaring through the sky in sheer majesty. That’s something I’d kill to see.

A Pegasus is a noble winged-horse that originates from Greek mythology. He is said to have sprung from the blood of the slain Gorgon, Medusa, as she was beheaded by the mighty Perseus.

There are many tales about this creature. One claims that he bore the mighty Perseus on his back when he went to rescue Andromeda, the Ethiopian princess, who was chained to a rock to be a sacrifice for a sea monster. In another one, he was tamed and ridden by the hero, Bellerophon, to fight the monstrous Chimera, a fire-breathing monster that had a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail. He was later stabled by Zeus and served as his thunderbolt-bearer. Zeus is said to have rewarded him by placing him in the sky as a constellation. He is also associated with poetry. In another tale, he was said to have been tamed by the goddess, Athena, and presented to the Muses.

The first time I came across this creature, I was very little. It was in the Disney animated movie, Hercules, where he was gifted to baby Hercules. They became companions and later went on adventures together. Watching him and Hercules together, I wished I had my own personal steed. Even now, I still wish I had one. It would be so exciting soaring through the skies on one.

I also came across the creature in one of the Barbie movies: Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. Here, the Pegasus called Brietta saves Annika (Barbie) when a powerful wizard turns her family into stone. Then, she flies her to the Cloud Kingdom and together, they defeat the wizard and save her family. Brietta turns out to be Barbie’s sister who the wizard had turned to a winged-horse many years ago. After defeating the wizard, she is transformed to a human again.

Pegasus is said to only serve good causes and riders and is known to represent strength, freedom, and bravery. And in all the movies I’ve
watched where the creature featured, this has been shown to be true. It’d be super cool if they existed.
