LOH CONTEST #157 - YOU HAVE A HARSH TONE

I have come to realize that no matter what you say or do, people will always misunderstand you. Everyone of us has our own unique way of interpreting and perceiving information, and our preconceived ideas and assumptions can overshadow our understanding, which may sometimes lead to poor communication or misunderstandings.

I have been misunderstood several times, one of which was or is that I am a snob. I have come to realize that most people who call me a snob do not really know me; they only see and know me from a distance, so I do not really pay much attention to it or blame them either.

But this particular one that got into me was when people told me I have a harsh, commanding, angry, and authoritative tone when I speak. I must say that when I first heard this, I was shocked. I have heard my cousin and friend say that whenever I talk to them, it usually feels like their mom speaks to them. I thought they were joking until, during my NYSC days, I was the assistant secretary of a Christian fellowship, and during one of our church services, while I was taking announcements, I addressed some corp members who I noticed were not doing their duties and making others do their duties for them.

After service that day, a few people met me and asked why my tone was harsh. They said that I sounded angry and that my tone was very harsh. I told them I was not angry, and about my tone been harsh, I literally had no idea what they were talking about. Since then, I have tried several times to work on how to talk, but still, people get the wrong idea. I have to explain that, mostly when I am chatting, I have to tell some person to read it with a soft tune in your mind, or while I am talking and I notice the person's body language, I have to explain that what they perceive is not what I meant to communicate.

Sometimes I wonder if they want me to start using a baby voice to talk.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END 🤗
