Since release, I know Grandmaster Rathe is a sleeper OP card meaning it's overpowered but no one uses it. The reason is it's complicated and there's only certain combos that shows Grandmaster Rathe's hidden potential.

Lore Summary Banner.gif

Grandmaster Rathe

Grandmaster Rathe was a son of the blacksmith who doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. He doesn't like the big weapons his father makes, but rather interested in smaller blades. He doesn't like the environment around the forges as they emit very hot temperature, the hammers were heavy and the workload is bad.

Eventually, Rathe ran away and travelled the world. He wanted to relive the storied on those nights they sing and dance with bonfires. As his food reserves come to a decreasing supply, he sold the only memory of his father's, a small dagger that they crafted together...

Truthspeaker

Truthspeakers are the most mysterious priests in Khymian. They can speak all language and are able to speak to angels in the Angel realm.

An interesting part on the lore is it said, Truthspeakers can call down smiting light from heaven which is uncontrollable and destructive. However, in Truthspeaker's stats, they have no capability of damaging an opponent nor have any abilities that can interfere with the opponent's side.

This makes me think that Truthspeaker's lore were unrelated, just flavor text or just made for the sake of having a lore. Those are just my theory, a Splinterlands theory.

Grandmaster Rathe

A legendary card is normally in the $20 average price. A summoner at $18.20 is $1.80 cheaper than average and I think is a really good steal. I think this card has a lot of opportunities especially since recently, a lot of cards have built in armor which complements the Void Armor ability very much.

Market Price | Rent

I normally rent these cards only since I don't have a high budget for playing Splinterlands. I live in a third world country and $5 every 2 weeks for rental is my maximum for now. You can even buy a new phone for that amount if saved for like 2 months so it's kind of steep for me to increase it at the moment.

If you're renting it, I suggest a level 2 but the available level 2s right now jumped up in price maybe because of the news that the Chaos Legion Rewards will be stopped by the end of this month in preparation for the Soulbound rewards. My average rental price for summoners are 20 DEC so the level 2 Grandmaster Rathe at 37.49 is currently above my price and I advise that you wait until after the season when the prices goes down a bit. For a level 1, 10 DEC is my average standard so trying it for Bronze at 5.04 DEC is okay.

For a rare card, Truthspeaker is on the expensive part. It doesn't look like it because you can buy a level 1 for $2. However, if you're playing her on higher level, it would require a number of cards combined so that $2 price would compound. A quick example is the price of the level 5 which is at $94 and it's not even on its max level.

With a low print copy, the rental is a bit pricey as well. My maximum rental for a level 4 copy is 10 DEC and Truthseeker already went above it by 6 DEC. The worse part is there's only health gained until level 4 so leveling Truthspeaker to 4 is not that efficient as you normally tuck her in the middle of the squad for protection.

Stats | Grandmaster Rathe

𝔓π”₯𝔬𝔱𝔬 𝔣𝔯𝔬π”ͺ π”ͺ𝔢 π”–π”π”©π”¦π”«π”±π”’π”―π”©π”žπ”«π”‘π”° π”žπ” π” π”¬π”²π”«π”±.

Grandmaster Rathe is a legendary summoner. At level 1, you can summon the maximum level cap of monster for Bronze league meaning if you're playing in Bronze, level 1 is the only one you need.

Level 2 Grandmaster Rathe is capped for Silver, level 3 for Gold and level 4 for above.

Abilities

I categorize Summoner Abilities in 2 types, inherent and non-inherent abilities. Inherent summoner abilities gives all of your monsters with that ability. Non-inherent summoner abilities does not give monsters extra abilities but is used by your summoner itself to the monsters on the board.

+1 Armor (Inherent). Grandmaster Rathe provides 1 armor to everyone in your team. Think of it as a weaker version of Protect ability. This ability stacks with Protect ability.

Void Armor.png

Void Armor (Inherent). Grandmaster Rathe gives Void Armor to all of your monsters. A monster with Void Armor reduces its armor first instead of health when damaged by magic attack. It's the same with the Weak Magic rule of combat.

Amplify.png

Amplify (Inherent). Grandmaster gives Amplify ability to all of your monsters. Thorns, Magic Reflect, and Return Fire's damage is increased by 1 as long as there's Amplify effect on your team. This Amplify effect does not stack.

Stats | Truthspeaker

Truthspeaker's stats is low. She has no attack nor armor, only at 2 speed and 1 health. However, she's a very powerful card and a core component of this strategy for her Protect ability.

Abilities

Protect.png

At level 1, Protect is unlocked. Protect gives 2 armor to all of your monsters as long as this monster is alive on the board. This effect stacks meaning you get 4 armor if you have 2 monsters with Protect ability, 6 armor if you have 3 monsters with Protect ability and so on.

Cleanse.png

At level 5, Cleanse is unlocked. Cleanse removes all negative status effects on the monster in first position at the start of Truthspeaker's turn. Negative status effects are effects like poisoned, stunned, Demoralized, etc.

Tank Heal.png

At level 8, Tank Heal is unlocked. Tank Heal restores 1/3 of the max health of monster in the first position at the start of Truthspeaker's turn.

𝑫𝒐 π’šπ’π’– π’π’Šπ’Œπ’†
Grandmaster Rathe and Truthspeaker Combo
? π‘Ύπ’‰π’š 𝒐𝒓 π‘Ύπ’‰π’š 𝒏𝒐𝒕?

Yes. This combo gives Void Armor and Protect to everyone. This means all Magic damage will need to damage through armor first before health which doubles the survivability of all of your monsters.

One big disadvantage of this is Grandmaster Rathe requires 6 mana and while Truthspeaker requires only 3 mana, she doesn't have any damage meaning 9 of your mana is put into a combo for protection but not producing any damage. It's good to be used in above 20 mana where you can put the rest of your mana for damage.

𝔓π”₯𝔬𝔱𝔬 𝔣𝔯𝔬π”ͺ π”ͺ𝔢 π”–π”π”©π”¦π”«π”±π”’π”―π”©π”žπ”«π”‘π”° π”žπ” π” π”¬π”²π”«π”±.

Summoner: Grandmaster Rathe: The most important thing he gives you is the Void Armor ability which allows your monster's armor to block any magic damage before it hits your health.

  1. Disintegrator: Has Demoralize that decreases all opponent's melee damage by 1 with a minimum of 1. Also has extra armor that complements with Grandmaster Rathe
  2. Cave Slug: Has Opportunity ability that allows him to attack from any position. With Opportunity, the target changes to the lowest health monster on opponent's side.
  3. Djinn Renova: Has Strengthen that can increase all of your monster's health by 1 as long as she's alive. I only added her because of the rule of combat.
  4. Truthspeaker: The other part of the combo. Gives you Protect ability that adds 2 armor to every monster you have as long as she is alive. Void Armor ability allow this armor to
  5. Lone Boatman: Gets a Repair ability on level 5, which complements with the strategy. Repair restores armor of the highest damaged armor on your team by 2 at the start of his turn. Also has 2 range damage Snipe to prioritize the healers.
  6. Adelade Brightwing: Has a Repair ability at level 1 and Resurrect ability at level 2. Resurrect brings back your monster that died with 1 health but full armor. This works really amazing with Grandmaster Rathe because that resurrected monster gains the Void Armor and armor from Truthspeaker and Grandmaster Rathe which means he won't be one shotted by an opponent's magic damage upon resurrection.

α—ͺIα—ͺ YOα‘Œα–‡ α”•Tα–‡α—©TEGY α—―Oα–‡KEα—ͺ?

Yes. Although it doesn't look like much, the strategy helped a lot in this battle. If there's no Void Armor, Djinn Apprentice would've melted my team. I don't have any Tank Heals so even if Adelade Brightwing and Lone Boatman have repair, they wouldn't stop Apprentice Magician's damage without the Void Armor from Grandmaster Rathe. Truthspeaker would also be useless as even if she has Protect, all of Djinn Apprentice's damage would pass through armor.

If there's no Truthspeaker as well, my team would've died from Serpentine Spy. He would pick my team one by one eventually losing the battle.

The combination of both Grandmaster Rathe and Truthspeaker helped my team survive through all forms and angles of attack giving me a solid win.

α—―α•Όα—©T α—―Iα’ͺα’ͺ YOα‘Œ Tα–‡Y α—ͺIα–΄α–΄Eα–‡Eα‘ŽTα’ͺY α‘ŽEα™T TIα—°E?

Even if Cave Slug was really helpful during this game, I would prefer adding another magic damage or a melee/range with higher speed. Lower speed meant missing a lot and those misses might cost me loss in other games.
