Cherished Holiday Traditions

The start of December is here and which means holidays are all over the world. The funny thing is we all do not have the same holidays because we all live in different countries and have different religions which give other festive days.

Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Sinterklaas, Christmas, New Years...You name it, and someone is doing it. But we don't all do the same, so I guess everyones childhood memories of these holidays are also very different.

For absolutely no reason I don't really value dates that much. Birthdays I often forget from a lot of people and also when the question rises in August what we will be doing on Christmas eve or if I want to join in on the New Years party and I have to confirm this 5 months prior, I get a little itchy on this.

It feels a bit like because it is this date we have to be dressed up and everything is fine all of a sudden. No wars, no family discussions, just all be happy. You know it doesn't work that way right? After holiday season there are so many people complaining on how terrible Christmas was and how drunk uncle Mike got, ending up throwing glasses to grandma because she was trying to cool the situation down. You feel what I mean right? It is so often not all that natural.

Now what I like in holiday season the most is that we have a lot of people around us here who do not make too much of a fuss about this all. Apart from this because of my healthcare job, I am usually kind of occupied on the exact dates becaue other people want them off.

Now because of often doing Christmas on an alternative dates because of work for some reason this also took off the pressure of the date, and the real focus came back. The focus that it is nice to spend some time with each other in mid winter time, regardless on what day this is, or if you are or are not dressed up in your most fancy dress. (why do people think that when everyone has to make the effort of putting on shiny clothes that all of a sudden Christmas is saved).

But this brings it back to the following on Christmas (when you are not really doing this out of religious purposes). That spending time with fine people is the most cherished memory. And whether this is with family on an alternative date, or spending time with some patients who need company in the hospital because they are alone there, or spending time with friends because you all live abroad and no one has their family there...

Well I have done them all, and those are all my most cherished memories. Low key, easy vibe, everyone accepts each other, and we enjoy each others company.

Laid back and relaxed, and just having some good times with one and another regardless of the time, the date and the wardrobe.
