We are in times of many changes, thousands of people have had to leave their home to start from scratch. Tell me, what do you think about immigration? Have you lived this experience, or do you have someone close to you who has had to go to another country? How do you feel about that?
What do I think about immigration?
Immigration has always existed throughout the history of mankind. The first people migrated to find better living conditions, just as they do today. Unfortunately, immigrants are seen as a nuisance and this is mainly due to issues of job opportunities, fear of the unknown and cultural prejudices. However, these aspects could be addressed through dialogue and proper family and school education, since immigration positively favors the diversity and economy of the society they arrive to, providing skilled labor to a lesser or greater extent.
Have you lived this experience, or do you have someone close to you who has had to go to another country?
I have never lived this experience, but I have had people close to me who have had to leave the country, for example: my biological father Daniel, my dearest maternal aunt, Idania, one of my best childhood friends, Chabely Pilar and my ex-boyfriend, a brilliant engineer, with whom I got along very well.
Economic issues and war conflicts are two of the worst causes of immigration. There is more to be cut through here, such as political issues, love affairs and the desire to improve one's job prospects.
How do I feel about immigration?
Well, I live in a country of emigrants, since in Cuba, the government has not been able to provide the basic necessities of life. I love my land, as much as any Cuban who has had to leave here, but the difficulties make you think realistically and strive to improve to help yourself and your family, mainly.
Immigration and emigration are painful events. When you emigrate you leave all the life you have created behind, to head towards a destination that is not "rosy". You have to face discrimination, work overload, often loneliness and a totally different culture, where you will be judged by your origin, as happens with Cuban women, who are generalized everywhere in the world.
I think that if the leaders of all countries were less ambitious and more humane, if they thought about the good of the common citizen and not about politics, we would not have to talk about immigration and emigration as a problem. These phenomena would occur for other reasons. Nevertheless, I recognize the complexity of migration, its various factors at play and the position of each ruler in relation to power and money.

Estamos en tiempos de muchos cambios, miles de personas han tenido que dejar su hogar para empezar de cero. Dime, ¿qué opinas de la inmigración? ¿Has vivido esta experiencia, o tienes a alguien cercano que ha tenido que irse a otro país? ¿Qué opinas al respecto?
¿Qué opino sobre la inmigración?
La inmigración siempre ha existido a lo largo de historia de la humanidad. Los primeros hombres migraban para encontrar mejores condiciones de vida, tal y como ocurre en la actualidad. Desafortunadamente, los inmigrantes son considerados como una molestia y esto se debe fundamentalmente a las cuestiones de oportunidades laborales, miedo a lo desconocido y los prejuicios culturales. Sin embargo, estos aspectos podrían abordarse mediante el diálogo y la correcta educación de la familia y la escuela, ya que la inmigración favorece de manera positiva la diversidad y economía de la sociedad a la que llegan, aportando mano de obra calificada en menor o mayor medida.
¿Has vivido esta experiencia, o tienes a alguien cercano que ha tenido que irse a otro país?
Nunca he vivido esta experiencia, pero sí he tenido personas cercanas que han tenido que abandonar el país, como, por ejemplo: mi padre biológico Daniel, mi tía materna más querida, Idania, una de mis mejores amigas de la infancia, Chabely Pilar y mi ex novio, un ingeniero brillante, con el que me llevaba muy bien.
Las cuestiones económicas y los conflictos de guerra son dos de las peores causas de la inmigración. Aquí hay más tela por donde cortar, como, por ejemplo, las cuestiones políticas, las relaciones amorosas y los deseos de mejorar laboralmente.
¿Cómo me siento con respecto a la inmigración?
Bueno, vivo en un país de emigrantes, ya que en Cuba, las necesidades básicas para vivir, el gobierno no las ha sabido suplir. Amo mi tierra, tanto como todo aquel cubano que ha tenido que salir de aquí, pero las vicisitudes te hacen pensar de forma realista y luchar por mejorar para ayudarse a uno mismo y a la familia, principalmente.
La inmigración y la emigración son eventos dolorosos. Al emigrar se deja toda la vida que has creado atrás, para encaminarte hacia un destino que no es "color rosa". Tienes que enfrentar la discriminación, la sobrecarga de trabajo, muchas veces la soledad y una cultura totalmente diferente, donde serás juzgada/o por tu origen, tal y como ocurre con las mujeres cubanas, a las cuales generalizan en cualquier parte del mundo.
Pienso que si los dirigentes de todos los países fueran menos ambiciosos y más humanos, si pensaran en el bien del ciudadano común y no en la política, no tendríamos que hablar sobre la inmigración y emigración como un problema. Estos fenómenos se darían por otras razones. No obstante, reconozco la complejidad de la migración, sus diversos factores en juego y la postura de cada gobernante con relación al poder y el dinero.
