Greetings dear friends. This week's Ladies of Hive community challenge motivates me to tell you how it's like to live a week without electricity.
The questions in this week's Challenge #53 challenge ask you two alternatives: what do you prefer: a week without electricity or water? I chose a week without electricity for two reasons. The first is because it is a circumstance that I have experienced, and the second is because I have frequently experienced the lack of this service, and I have learned to transform this uncomfortable circumstance into an opportunity to bring out positive things. Saludos queridos amigos, esta semana el desafío de la comunidad Ladies of Hive me motiva a contarles cómo es vivir una semana sin electricidad.
Si bien es cierto que las preguntas del desafío de esta semana del Reto #53 te plantean dos alternativas: qué prefieres? una semana sin electricidad o sin agua? Yo elegí una semana sin electricidad por dos motivos. El primero es porque es una circunstancia que he vivido, y la segunda por haber vivido frecuentemente la falta de este servicio he aprendido a transformar esta circunstancia incómoda en una oportunidad para sacar cosas positivas. ¿Puedes transformar los problemas en cosas buenas? In today's world, it is inconceivable that you lack basic services such as electricity and water, but we must not forget that there is a percentage of the world's population that lacks them and their lives are a little different from those who do enjoy these services.
I lived in Venezuela, a country in the north of South America with great natural water reserves and the best thermoelectric plants built in the ´80s. The mismanagement of the country's resources led to a lack of basic services such as water and electricity, disrupting the routines to which we were accustomed. This led to having to live the experience of several days without electricity, which initially generates discomfort.
Many say that adapting to these circumstances means getting used to losing comfort, but if the immediate circumstances do not depend on us, we must find a way to overcome the obstacles and turn these adverse circumstances into opportunities to grow.
En el mundo de hoy es inconcebible que te falten los servicios básicos como luz y agua, sin embargo no debemos olvidar que hay un porcentaje de la población mundial que carecen de ellos y sus vidas son un poco diferentes a los que sí disfrutamos de estos servicios.
Viví en Venezuela, un país al Norte de Suramérica con grandes reservas naturales de agua y con las mejores termoeléctricas construídas en los años 80. El mal manejo de los recursos del país llevó a que servicios tan elementales como agua y luz comenzaran a faltar a la población trastocando nuestras rutinas a las que estábamos acostumbrados. Esto llevó a tener que vivir la experiencia de varios días sin luz lo que en un inicio genera incomodidad.
Muchos dicen que adaptarte a estas circunstancias es acostumbrarte a perder confort, sin embargo si las circunstancias inmediatas no dependen de nosotros mismos hay que buscar la forma de sortear los obstáculos y convertir esas circunstancias adversas en oportunidades para crecer.
Well, in a modern world, almost all of them, but if we look at it from a strictly work and home point of view, the lack of this service will affect the use of the Internet, computers, TVs and cell phones, electronic devices that we use most of the time during the day. Another electronic appliance that will be affected by the lack of electricity is the refrigerator, a great ally to preserve our food and that means changing the family consumption routines to overcome the lack of electricity without damaging the supplies.
Pues en un mundo moderno casi todas, sin embargo si lo vemos desde el punto de vista estrictamente laboral y del hogar, la falta de este servicio afectará el uso de internet, la computadora, el televisor y los celulares, aparatos electrónicos que usamos en gran parte de las horas del día. Otro aparato electrónico que se ve afectado por la falta de electricidad es el refigerador, un gran aliado para conservar nuestros alimentos y que supone cambiar las rutinas de consumo familiar para sortear la falta de electricidad sin que se dañen los insumos.
Living a week without electricity is to stop living in an external world through technology and live closer experiences with your family and what is around you. For me, a week without electricity goes by very quickly because I invest my time in things that I usually postpone. After all, I am absorbed in working on the computer, sharing on social networks, watching television, and more.
Currently, my house is surrounded by a forest, it is a blessing to be able to have nature so close, however sometimes it becomes an element that goes unnoticed and is not enjoyed as it should, so when there are no light one of the things I do is to go for long walks to explore all the curiosities that nature around me gives me. With a camera in hand, I have been able to capture a lot of incredible flora and fauna that I didn't know lived so close to my home.
Vivir una semana sin electricidad es dejar de vivir en un mundo externo a través de la tecnología y vivir experiencias más cercanas con tu familia y lo que hay a tu alrededor. Para mí una semana sin electricidad pasa muy rápido porque invierto mi tiempo en cosas que por lo general pospongo por estar absorta en trabajar en la computadora, compartiendo en las redes sociales, viendo televisión y otras más.
Actualmente mi casa está rodeada de un bosque, es una bendición poder tener la naturaleza tan cerca, sin embargo a veces se convierte en un elemento que pasa desapercibido y no se disfruta como debería, así que cuando no hay luz una de las cosas que hago es salir de paseo en largas caminatas para explorar todas las curiosidades que la naturaleza a mi alrededor me brinda. Con cámara en mano he logrado captar mucha flora y fauna increíble que desconocía que habitaban tan cerca de mi hogar.
One of the things that fascinate me is cooking, so it is not new that part of my day is spent in this activity. When there is no electricity, I take the opportunity to prepare the food in the refrigerator that may deteriorate soon. Commonly, I spend a couple of days preparing jams and preserves. I take advantage of making in large quantities is the nápole sauce since packaging it in jars allows me to have it ready every time I want to eat a delicious pasta. In the case of jams, they are an excellent option for breakfast or as part of a dessert I want to prepare for my family.
If you have garden, that week you can make special dinners with camping lamps or torches. It is an excellent option for outdoor dining and after-dinner conversation. If your family group is large, it's an opportunity to share by telling stories or playing cards. It can turn into an unforgettable evening.

Una de las cosas que me fascina es cocinar así que no es novedad que parte de mi día se vaya en esta actividad, sin embargo cuando no hay electricidad aprovecho de preparar los alimentos del refrigerador que puedan deteriorarse pronto. Es común que un par de días los invierta preparando mermeladas y conservas. Aprovecho de hacer en grandes cantidades es la salsa nápole ya que al envasarla en frascos me permite tenerla lista cada vez que quiera comer una deliciosa pasta. En el caso de las mermeladas son una excelente opción para desayunar o como parte del algún postre que quiera preparar para mi familia.
Si tienes un patio, esa semana puedes hacer cenas especiales con lámparas de camping o antorchas. Es una excelente opción de comer al aire libre y hacer sobremesa. Si tu grupo familiar es grande, es una oportunidad de compartir contando historias o jugando cartas. Se pueden convertir en unas noches inolvidables.

The lack of electricity makes shopping for perishable foods more frequent and this is something I enjoy very much as there is nothing better for a cook than shopping at an outdoor market. I have several fresh produce markets close by and every time I go shopping my imagination runs wild thinking about how I'm going to cook everything I see hehehe sometimes, I lose my mind.
La falta de electricidad hace que las compras de alimentos perecederos sean más frecuentes y esto es algo que disfruto mucho ya que no hay nada mejor para un cocinero que ir de compras a un mercado al aire libre. Tengo muy cerca varios mercados con productos frescos y cada vez que hago las compras mi imaginación vuela pensando en cómo voy a cocinar todo aquello que veo jejeje a veces pierdo la cordura.
Something that never goes out of style is board games, at home we have several, and every time there is no electricity, we use them. These games are a source of fun and sharing with the family. Are priceless moments of laughter. However, my son and husband don't like to play Monopoly with me because I always end up buying all the properties and leave them bankrupt hahaha.
Algo que nunca pasa de moda son los juegos de mesa, en casa tenemos varios y cada vez que no hay electricidad los usamos, son una fuente de diversión y compartir en familia. Realmente son momentos valiosos de risas, sin embargo a mi hijo y esposo no les gusta jugar Monopoly conmigo ya que siempre termino comprando todas las propiedades y los dejo en bancarrota jajaja.
If you have a garden, I'm sure the lack of electricity gives you free time to do some gardening. I have several succulents and cacti, which are plants that need a lot of attention. Sometimes many of them need to be transplanted, but the lack of time makes this work to be delayed, so an opportunity to fix the garden is a wonderful option, my plants always appreciate it.
Si tienes un jardín, seguro que la falta de electricidad te brinda tiempo libre para hacer algunas arreglos en él. Yo tengo varias sucuelentas y cactus, son plantas que necesitan de mucha atención. A veces muchas necesitan ser transplantadas pero la falta de tiempo hace que esta labor se retrase, así que una oportunidad de arreglar el jardín es una maravillosa opción, simpre mis plantas lo agradecen.
I have a hobby that when there is electricity I can't do because I am "too busy" (you know with electronics), this hobby is putting puzzles together. It is an activity that my son also likes, so depending on the difficulty, the number of pieces, putting puzzles together can take you the whole week. When you concentrate on finding the place of each piece to have a final escape, many hours can go by without even realizing it.
I love music, that's why I'm starting cello lessons, it's something that takes time and practice, so when there's no electricity it's an opportunity to take up this amazing instrument again.

Tengo un hobby que cuando hay electricidad no puedo realizar ya que estoy "muy cocupada" (ya saben con los aparatos electrónicos), este hobby es armar rompecabezas. Es una actividad que también le gusta a mi hijo, así que dependiendo de la dificultad, el número de piezas, armar rompecabezas puede llevarte toda la semana. Cuando te concentras en buscar el lugar de cada pieza para tener una fugura final pueden pasarte muchas horas sin darte cuenta.
Me encanta la música, por eso estoy empezando con clases de violonchelo, es algo que amerita de tiempo y práctica, así que cuando no hay electricidad es una oportunidad de retomar el uso de este instrumento tan increíble.
You can see, this is a small part of what we do at home when there is no electricity. A week sometimes falls short. I am not saying that the lack of electricity service is good, what I do want to share with you is that by turning problems into positive opportunities to grow as people and family, an adverse circumstance becomes more bearable throughout the time it lasts, this is the best legacy I can leave to my family, that they see in the difficulties the opportunity to be creative and to take advantage of the circumstances in their favor and that nothing robs them of their happiness.I don't want to say goodbye without first inviting to participate in this weekly challenge my dear @abisag and @aramza, two very creative women who surely have a lot to share.
Como ves, esto es una pequeña parte de lo que hacemos en casa cuando no hay electricidad. Una semana a veces se queda corta. No digo que la falta del servicio de electricidad sea bueno, lo que sí quiero compartirles es que al convertir los problemas en oportunidades positivas para crecer como personas y familia, una circunstancia adversa se hace más llevadera a través del tiempo que esta dure, este es el mejor legado que le puedo dejar a mi familia, que vean en las dificultades la oportunidad para ser creativos y a provechar las circunstancias a su favor y que nada les robe su felicidad. No me quiero despedir sin antes invitar a participar en este reto semanal a mis queridas @abisag y @aramza, dos mujeres muy creativas que seguro tienen mucho qué compartir.
