Contest #86/ My Testimonial

When I saw this question in this week's contest at once, I connected to it and set out to answer it, as it has been part of my environment and life, without further ado, let's go for the question:

What is the most extreme example of poverty you have seen?

Unfortunately, I have had to observe in recent years many cases of extreme poverty, just around the corner, that is, in my daily routine, going to work, going shopping, at any time; since my country has lived a strong economic crisis where the most disadvantaged have been the common citizens who do not own companies, businesses and who only depend on their work.

But there were some terrible years where poverty became more latent and if I remember correctly were the years 2017-2018, for me they were the strongest. Everything became horribly expensive and many products of the basic basket, disappeared from the shelves then, you could observe long lines to get these products, such as rice, pasta, sugar, oil, coffee among many others. Entire families could be seen begging, others without shoes, without clothes, because everything was very expensive.

My family and I managed to survive at that "survival game level" thanks to the various jobs that we all had and to the whole family nucleus that we all worked together; but there were people who did not have those supports and were in worse situations. I always remember the case of a friend of mine, where her daughter-in-law had been left in charge of her 3 granddaughters, all aged 1, 3 and 5 years old, while their father emigrated to give them a better quality of life, because they had already gone through many economic difficulties.

They had no milk or formula for the little ones, no diapers and sometimes no food, their situation was critical, so the father decided to emigrate with the intention of supporting his family, even if it was from far away, my friend always tried to help them, but she could not cope with the needs of her own home plus that of her daughter-in-law, this distressed her very much to see her granddaughters in a total situation of helplessness. The needs were many and her mother could not work because she had them so young, besides paying for a day care home meant leaving her salary for nothing else.

It was a very distressing situation, because there is nothing worse than seeing a child in need, hungry, without clothes or shoes. Many sacrifices were made so that these children could have at least the basic necessities, but in many occasions it was under the extreme sacrifice of the elders. Sometimes they preferred not to eat to give food to the girls, everyone in the family became very thin, you could see the emotional and physical wear that this whole situation entailed. To make matters worse, the girls' young father helped them at first, but then he found a new partner where he was and this made everything more terrible for the girls' mother and the little family that supported them.

With the support of the girls' grandmothers, the mother was able to start working in several jobs at the same time and little by little she was getting out of that terrible situation, but it was a time when extreme poverty reached that family, to the level of having to make only one meal a day and only for the children a little more and like this family, there were many who went through worse situations during those years. It seemed that we were living a war without knowing it. Today, thanks to God, some things have improved, but the economic level of inflation is still high and in many occasions we can't afford to cover all the expenses we have.

So talking about extreme poverty, for me is a topic of which I have many stories, of which I have witnessed and in passing at the time, I have been "splashed" with everything and our efforts as a family to get ahead, but thank God here I am sharing with you part of my experiences and testimonies. It is a part of my history or of our history as citizens of a country that has had a hard time having a good life, a good quality of life. In the past we did not know about these horrible experiences, but we had to deal with it and it was not pleasant. I hope with God's favor, that these stories diminish and are not repeated neither here nor in the rest of the world, is my greatest wish.

Invito a @annafenix, @chacald.dcymt a participar.
