Gender Violence and What to Do| LOH Contest #99

This is my entry to The #99th EDITION of the LADIES OF HIVE COMMUNITY CONTEST. You can check out the contest via this 👉 LINK

The questions for this round of the contest are thought provoking really and I'll address them both. To begin with, this is the first one:

Each country has different laws for women, some are very advanced but others have a difficult structure to obtain justice in cases of gender violence. In any case, all women should know the system in their country. In the hypothetical or real case that you are a victim or should help a victim of gender-based violence, do you know what to do? Where to go in that specific city to seek help or file a complaint? Do you know what the procedure is? The idea is to help any woman who needs that knowledge.
It is a delicate subject but if you have any experience that you want to share with other women you are free to do so.

Over the years, women have been subjected to many prejudices and gender based violence. These violence take many shapes and shades which includes but not limited to psychological violence, stalking, forced marriages, sexual violence including rape, female genital mutilation, sexual violence, and so on.

Most women who experience and/or these vices or violence against women may not know the steps or even where to go to seek redress, justice or the protection of the law.

For instance, in Nigeria where I live, they may be afraid to even report to law enforcement agencies like the police for fear of money to fund investigation or even stigmatization such as in case of rape. But there are numerous legislation to protect women which unfortunately most women are not even aware of.

One of such legislation is the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015. The law is designed to tackle of shades of violence against women both in private and public life and also provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders. It will also interest you to know that under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) law offenders also pay compensation to their victims if found guilty.

The law also provide a legal framework that protects victims of cultural practices that are particularly harmful to women and girls such as Female Genital Mutilation and circumcision, denial of inheritance and succession rights, and forced marriage.

Where a woman or a victim does not know how to employ this legislation for protection, such a woman can consult International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA which have offices throughout Nigeria for legal assistance free of charge. They are professionals poised to protect women and children against any intrusion into their rights.

Similarly, such a woman can also run to the legal aide and file a complaint and the offender will also be prosecuted. Legal aide Council of Nigeria is found throughout the 36 states in Nigeria.

These are therefore places where a woman or victim of gender based violence can run to for protection by the law.

For the second part of the question, which is:

We are already in September and soon it will be the last quarter of the year. Do you have a specific goal you want to achieve by the end of the year? Tell us about it and what you are doing or will do to achieve it.

On the other hand, as we have entered September, that marks the beginning of the "mber" months it is my earnest desire to continue my journey in the blockchain world. I started my hive activities on the 1/1/2022 and it is my target to at least hit 500 HP by end of the year.

Again, I intend to also accumulate decent tokens, including the tip ones and then stake them too. I believe all these are achievable as I have been striving hard to realise them.

Let me invite my good friend @didiee to this wonderful contest. Have fun 😊
