A woman’s essence goes beyond her biological construction as a female. When I think life, I think woman. Consider the process of carrying a baby for nine solid months, child birth, nurturing, holding the family together domestically and emotionally, I see that to be life itself. Sometimes I just wonder how the world would have looked like without women, DRY I suppose. (Smiles).

That being said, women engage a lot more in emotional and physical affairs that tend to put a strain on our mental health. Depression and anxiety may kick in at some point. It Could come in the form of hormonal imbalance or other physical factors.

Some Stress causal agents
In the case of Pregnancy: women go through a lot of hormonal changes that may cause fatigue, stress, irritability, mood swings that may result in depression during pregnancy.

Societal Demands: We live in a society where enough is never enough. Society demands a woman to look a certain way to be accepted. Where I come from, being slender doesn’t always qualify you as “womanly’, you need to fit into plus-size qualification. In other societies too, when you are plus-sized, it is required for you to look slim and slender. Isn’t society losing its sanity? This is a major depression factor.
Every woman is uniquely beautiful.

Multitasking:
Being a woman, I still wonder where we get the strength to multitask? If you don’t have multitasking as a skill, on your CV (curriculum vitae) as a woman, please, quickly, update it right away (laughs). Based on what I have grown to know, women are more domesticated. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of children and anything that falls under domestic duties. We balance that with our jobs/career, being mothers, wives and more. These sometimes become overpowering and cause depression.

How to deal with depression in general?
Some depression may require you visiting your physician and getting professional help, but aside that, self-help may be needful.

Relaxation:
When there is so much demand and pressure, sometimes just take a break and breathe. When you relax your nerves and stay rested, it may have positive reflections on you.

Talk it out:
Talking, listening and sharing our anxieties to people we are comfortable with also helps. Sometimes all you need is to talk your heart out and let someone listen to you. It makes you not feel alone especially when you know you are not in it alone.

Accept your individuality:
Everyone is as unique as they come, accept that you are special and there is no one like you. Self-love is the best therapy there is. Do not be influenced by societal standards an incur pressure on your wellbeing. Be you, stay positive and remember to do right.

Give yourself a treat:
Take a break from your routine and treat yourself to a spa day, beach walk, go on a vacation, buy something for yourself or do anything that would bring you joy. Also, remember to let your smile reach your eyes always.
