"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", is what a saying goes, in a few words what is beautiful for another, is not necessarily beautiful for another, as it can also happen that beauty is seen from the perspective that society, the media and more currently social networks have imposed on us. While it is true that beauty is not functional for some professions or purposes, it influences a lot when it comes to being hired, valued and even appreciated.
If we look at the history of fashion in some years like the 50's or before, the models were what we could call plump, an example of them the always remembered and the sex symbol of the 50's, Marilyn Monroe, which according to a website had this height and weight:
In 1945, a 19-year-old Norma checked into the Blue Book modeling agency. There, the receptionist listed her measurements as 91-60-86, a height of 1.67 meters and a weight of 53.5 kilos...

Now why does modern society place so much importance on beauty? Basically, it is for me, something visual, I am a very visual being, I stand out more for being auditory, but very often of what I hear, there is what I see, but we all like to see things pleasing to the eye, for example it is not the same that our house is clean and tidy to have a mess and dirty everywhere, that greatly influences our behavior, performance, mood and much more.
So seeing a person not necessarily beautiful, but that is presentable, arranged, allows us to have a good impression of her and even makes us pleasant to look at, it is true, that this does not determine at all the capacity, aptitude, professional level, lexicon and much more that I could mention here, to give an example of a beautiful woman, but who does not know how to express herself well, as beautiful as she could be to the eye is harmed when they hear her speak badly or in ways not well seen by society.
Beauty is valued for being something aesthetic and we can see how it is a determining factor in professions such as modeling, program presenters or news anchors, film, television, among others, but I also believe that beauty standards have long been determined by a group of people and media in general and have greatly affected the youth who fail to fit into those standards and that is why we see so many problems related to eating disorders and psychological disorders.
As I mentioned in previous paragraphs, television, magazines, the world of fashion, movies, and currently social networks have for years been pointing out what beauty is for them, putting in our heads how a woman should be in theory, height, weight, features, hair, haircut, and even skin color.

In short, I can say that from my point of view, beauty is given importance for something aesthetic for being something pleasing to the eye, but this definitely does not determine the quality of person we have in front of us or how prepared to exercise a function or position, so I decided to answer the question ***Why do you think that society gives so much value to beauty when it is useless? *** this publication being my entry in the Ladies of Hive Community Contest #122, I withdraw and for those who have been kind enough to get this far, I remind you that you are free to share your comments on this topic in the comments box.
“La belleza está en los ojos de quien la mira”, es lo que reza un dicho, en pocas palabras lo que es bello para otro, no necesariamente es bello para otro, como también puede pasar que la belleza sea vista desde la perspectiva que nos han impuesto, la sociedad, los medios de comunicación y más actualmente las redes sociales. Si bien es cierto que la belleza no es funcional para algunas profesiones o propósitos, influye mucho a la hora de ser contratado, valorado y hasta apreciado.
Si vemos la historia de la moda en algunos años como los 50 o antes, las modelos eran lo que podríamos llamar rellenas, un ejemplo de ellos la siempre recordada y la sex symbol de los años 50, Marilyn Monroe, la cual de tenia de acuerdo una página de internet esta estatura y peso:

¿Ahora bien, por qué la sociedad moderna le da tanta importancia a la belleza? Básicamente, se trata para mí, de algo visual, yo soy un ser muy visual, me destaco más por ser auditiva, pero muy seguido de lo que escucho, está lo que veo, pero a todos nos gusta ver cosas agradables a la vista, por ejemplo no es lo mismo que nuestra casa está limpia y ordenada a tener un desorden y sucio por todos lados, eso influye mucho en nuestro comportamiento, rendimiento, humor y mucho más.
Así que ver una persona no necesariamente bella, pero que esté presentable, arreglado, nos permite tener de ella una buena impresión y hasta se nos hace agradable a la vista, es cierto, que esto no determina para nada la capacidad, aptitud, nivel profesional, léxico y mucho más que podría mencionar aquí, por poner un ejemplo de una mujer hermosa, pero que no sabe expresarse bien, por más bella que pudiera ser a la vista se ve perjudicada cuando le escuchen hablar mal o con modos no bien vistos por la sociedad.
La belleza es valorada por ser algo estético y podemos ver cómo es un factor determinante en profesiones como el modelaje, presentadoras de programas o narradoras de noticias, cine, televisión, entre otras, pero creo también que los estándares de belleza desde hace mucho están determinados por un grupo de personas y medios en general y han afectado mucho la juventud que no logra encajar en esos estándares y por ello vemos tantos problemas relacionados con desórdenes alimenticios y psicológicos.
Como ya mencioné en párrafos anteriores, la televisión, revistas, el mundo de la moda, el cine, y actualmente las redes sociales desde hace años viene señalando lo que es para ellos belleza, metiéndonos en la cabeza como debería ser en teoría una mujer, estatura, peso, rasgos, cabello, corte de pelo, y hasta color de piel.
En resumen, que puedo decir que desde mi punto de vista a la belleza, se la da importancia por algo estético por ser algo agradable a la vista, pero esto definitivamente no determina la calidad de persona que tenemos frente a nosotros o que tan preparado pueda estar para ejercer una función o cargo, así he decido dar respuesta a la pregunta ¿Por qué crees que la sociedad da tanto valor a la belleza cuando no sirve para nada? siendo esta publicación mi partición en el Ladies of Hive Community Contest #122, me retiro y para los que han tenido la amabilidad de llegar hasta aquí, les recuerdo que están en libertad de compartir sus cometarios sobre este tema en el cajón destinado para los comentarios.
