At the weekend, my family and I went to picnic in Aşık Veysel Recreation Area. It is located in the Bornova district of Izmir, one of the three largest cities in Turkey. This area, which was built to meet the needs of the crowded city population, was established on an area of 231,000 square meters. This magnificent place, named after the famous Turkish bard who lost his eyesight from smallpox at a young age, was completed in 2010. It is a beautiful and comprehensive place to host not only those in the Bornova district, but also many visitors from the surrounding districts.

Hafta sonu ailemle birlikte Aşık Veysel Rekreasyon Alanı'nda piknik yapmaya gittik. Burası Türkiye'nin en büyük üç ilinden biri olan İzmir'in Bornova ilçesinde bulunuyor. Kalabalık kent nüfusunun ihtiyaçlarına cevap vermek için inşa edilen bu alan 231.000 metrekarelik bir alana kurulmuş. İsmini, küçük yaşta çiçek hastalığından gözlerini kaybetmiş ünlü türk ozanından alan bu muhteşem yer, 2010 yılında tamamlanmış. Sadece Bornova ilçesinde bulunanları değil, çevre ilçelerden gelen birçok ziyaretçisini ağırlayacak kadar güzel ve kapsamlı bir yer.

Aşık Veysel Recreation Area has been designed to meet all the needs of the urban people. As someone who has been involved in many sports branches from a young age, I especially loved sports fields. While people were taking advantage of these free-of-charge areas, they were relieving all the stress and tiredness of the day here. When I visited these places, I thought of my university years. We used to play basketball every evening after class and play football matches regularly. That's why I was very happy to see young people like this. In fact, the most gratifying part of the job was on the football field. There were only a few young people among the matchmakers. As long as one moves, as long as one struggles, getting old is just a word. That's what I thought when I saw the agility of those people on the field.

Küçük yaşlardan itibaren birçok spor branşıyla uğraşmış biri olarak özellikle spor alanlarını çok sevdim. İnsanlar kendilerine ücretsiz olarak sunulan bu alanlardan faydalanırken, günün tüm stresini ve yorgunluğunu burada atıyorlardı. Buraları gezdiğimde üniversite yıllarım aklıma geldi. We went to Aşık Veysel Recreation Area for tea. As I left their side to explore the surroundings and take pictures, I heard the voices of children behind me. They were my sisters' children. As always, they wanted to come and travel with me. There were playgrounds in the places we visited. That was their weak point :)

Kız kardeşlerimin çocuklarıydı. Yine her zaman olduğu gibi benimle birlikte gelip gezmek istiyorlardı. Gezdiğimiz yerlerde çocuk parkları vardı. Bu onların zayıf noktasıydı :)

There was a place reserved for this purpose in the Aşık Veysel Recreation Area. This special promotion was made at the entrance of the park. It was written that the sister cities project started in the 1980s. There were also interesting sculptures and designs in the park. Each of them was placed within the framework of universal values.

And then darkness fell. The calmness of the night pervaded the place. The illuminated man appeared with the toy in his hand. The man selling cotton candy reminded me of my childhood. The colorful lights of the cafe decorated the night. It was the hour when light and darkness danced. At times like these, I feel different. The gentle breeze whispers the song of the past. Memories intertwine with the present. I did what I had to do and enjoyed it all.
