Hello hello! I came across a super cute statue on Thingiverse of the Hollow Knight main character, known as The Knight. The game, Hollow Knight follows your character, some sort of deity offspring bug, through a metroid-vania style platforming adventure. While I am not the biggest fan of platforming games, I did enjoy playing Hollow Knight and enjoy the aesthetics of the setting and main character.
The Knight from Hollow Knight is the offspring "vessel" of two god-like bugs known as The Pale King and The White Lady, born in the abyss and having void within their shell. The Knight is genderless, like all the siblings from the Vessel.
What is a Shade?
The Shade form of The Knight is attained when defeated in combat and it is like a form of "last resort." The Knight usually has a bone white helm but it changes to black when The Knight is killed in battle. The Knight reaspawns at the last bench the player used as a checkpoint and, if the player returns to where they died the player has the opportunity to "recapture" their lost soul. (For lack of a better description)
Printing of this piece is in 4 parts, 3 of which require some supports. The amount of filament was under 125 grams total and the printing time was only about 10 hours. Apologies for not taking more photos of the printing process, but I was really excited to start painting this one and set it up.
For the LED's in the head I simply took 2 strands of a stretch of Ethernet cable, soldered that to the negative and positive wires from a USB-A cord and then soldered the positive legs of the LED together and attached the positive wire to the positive legs of the LED. Likewise for the negative leg of the LED. With moderate soldering skills this section of the project should only take about 20 minutes. Painting took several hours, but that's mostly just to wait for paint to dry. As you can see below The Knight could still use a couple of coats.
All in all I really enjoyed this 3D printing project. It was quite simple and only took 2 days to complete. Once I thicken up the paint on the model it will make a good desktop mini that I can plug in when I need just a tiny bit more ambient light.
