In 1984, the Olympics added a new event called the Heptathlon. The heptathlon consists of seven events which are 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meter sprint, long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run. This is a great mix of track and field events during the Olympics. On this day 29 years ago, the all-time great Jackie Joyner Kersee would set several records and most notably - the only woman to consecutively win the gold medal in the Oympics for the heptathlon and, she still holds the world record for score of any athlete. You go girl.
