Today India is celebrating National Girls Child Day. The initiative was started by Government of India in 2008, with the purpose to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities girls face in the Indian society.
I feel its a shame that India, need to observe a day to spread such kind of awareness. India having so much glorious history is observing a day for Girls. We must need to remind ourselves,
Girls are shining lights in our lives; angels who radiate goodness, affection & bondings.
Having read so many inequalities and in the male dominant society, there are still many families that prefer Boys over Girls. Many women were forced to abort after sex determination. Though now government of India takes strict action and sex determination is now illegal .
The unorthodox indian society never value a Girl child, but being a proud father , I would say having a girl at home and looking her smiling face always took all the worry away. My daughter is no less than a boy, she is good at study, well in arts and crafts,good at cooking and only at tender age of 12. She make everything possible with ease.
But looking at the cruelty and the inequality I do feel scared of the future. The male dominant society is making life of girls hell. In India, there were many stories of eve teasing, lewd remarks were common and going out alone is a curse. Who going to make the society aware of the beautiful heart of Girls.
Celebrating 24-January as a Girl Child Day might help people to recognize the importance of having a Girl. A day when each one of us must remind ourselves of our duties to protect & empower every girl child, nurture their dreams, celebrate their achievements.
I wish, Every Girl in the Indian society would get a fresh air to live in the Free India. The country who always known for its value and tradition. Empowering Girls would surely make them Pride of nation.
