Magic lettuces & an invitation to the Pyrenees

Last year we let our lettuce plants go to flower to collect seeds but it turns out we won't be needing them because the wind has already distributed them everywhere!

Walking around the garden yesterday I couldn't help but marvel at the simplicity of this system which has provided us with literally 100s of lettuces in five different varieties, most of them in places we would never have thought to plant them.

Like between the onions.

Or under the peas.

Under the beans.

Next to the herbs.

Behind the celery.

Between the strawberries.

Under the raspberries.

Around the boarders.

Even in the baby fruit tree plant pots!

Other pots have younger plants.

They just keep on popping up!

I suppose one could say it is more about selective weeding than anything else but it has been interesting to see how they didn't all sprout at the same time, giving us a super long lettuce season without having to do any planting whatsoever.

We recently weeded these two beds and this is what we were left with. Almost looks like we planted them intentionally ;)

The earliest ones to sprout are looking fully developed already. Should probably pick the big one here and let the little one grow up.

In certain areas of the garden the mint is taking over...

...and it occurred to me that with a whole bunch of selective weeding it would be possible to create a garden which is covered almost entirely by edible greens. You just bend down and pick the floor when you are hungry ;)

In other news France has gone back into Super Lockdown mode which means the kids don't have to go to school any more! Very happy for that :)

Vaccine passports are being discussed openly now and pretty much every French person I know is queueing up to get jabbed, even if they don't want it. They have conceded already because they love travel and are not prepared to sacrifice this part of their lives to retain their bodily autonomy.

So, anyone who isn't intending to be a part of the world's biggest medical experiment may wish to take a good look at their current location, asking themselves if it is where they want to be when the music stops? Sure there will be ways to escape, but they will not be easy and potentially very expensive.

I would at this point like to remind everyone of the Grand Solar Minimum which is now upon us. The weather will continue getting more and more erratic and agriculture will continue declining. Food prices will continue rising and civil unrest will break out in built up areas. It is therefore advisable to live in areas where you can grow your own food without the threat of hungry and potentially uncivilized people arriving at your door.

Here in the agricultural foothills of the Pyrenees, food production or excessive numbers of people will not be a problem for us.

Ultimately we will find a way to live freely in these mountains and if you can get here with a willingness to assist on our mission towards this goal, I will look after you as best I can while feeding you on lettuce ;)
