Ritual bautizo de agua

Luego de que les compartí mi experiencia con el ritual que hicimos para mi hijo Gael de bendición del útero (puedes ver el post aquí), me animé hoy a continuar la historia con otro ritual que hicimos un poco después de su nacimiento.
Ceremonia de Agua

Desconozco si la tradición de "echar agua" a los bebes antes del bautizo en la iglesia
es una costumbre latinoamericana, en mi país se realiza mucho y suele ser un ritual muy sencillo con los padres, padrinos y familiares más cercanos del bebé.
No existe una guía "oficial" de cómo llevar a cabo este ritual, sin embargo, se caracteriza por ponerle agua bendita al niño, hacer una oración destinada a bendecirlo, y pedir a Dios por su guía y protección, encendiendo una velita para iluminar esas peticiones.
En el caso de Gael fue un ritual bastante diferente a lo tradicional. Les comparto los detalles de ese día tan emotivo y especial:
Le pedí a la misma amiga que guió el ritual de la bendición del útero que nos acompañara en esta oportunidad. Confiando en su guía e intuición, nos pidió que prepararamos el espacio con un objeto representativo de cada elemento (aire, fuego, agua y tierra), de este modo dispusimos de velitas para representar el fuego, incienso para simbolizar el aire, trigo para la tierra y el agua bendita que no podía faltar.
Inició el ritual hablando de la importancia que tenían los padrinos como guías en nuestras vidas, resaltando el compromiso que debía asumirse desde el amor y la conciencia de poder estar presente en la vida del niño de allí en adelante.
Luego, explicó el simbolismo de cada uno de los elementos, nos dijo que estos eran unas energías arquetípicas que afectaban directamente a nuestro Ser, nuestra conciencia y nuestra forma de entender y andar por el mundo.
En efecto, los 4 elementos son formas de manifestación de la energía, desde su aspecto más sútil o inmaterial (aire) hasta el más denso o material (tierra). De forma general, se asocia el elemento agua con la "purificación", sirve para limpiar y quitar impurezas, también tiene que ver con las emociones, la sensibilidad, la fertilidad. Es el símbolo del nacimiento espiritual, por ello no puede faltar nunca en un bautizo.
Por su parte, el aire vendría siendo el aspecto más sútil del espíritu (los pensamientos), en contraposición a la tierra que tiene que ver con arraigo, con todo lo material y palpable. El Fuego es símbolo de iniciación, de chispa, de alegría, pasión y transmutación.
Después de sus palabras de inicio, cada uno de los padrinos escogió un elemento para representar y debían ofrendarlo a Gael diciendo frases relacionadas a su elemento y bendiciendo su camino. Recuerdo que la madrina de la tierra ofrendó el trigo pidiendo abundancia, suministro y prosperidad en el camino de Gael, y también que pudiera caminar con paso firme su camino por esta tierra.
Todas las oraciones fueron hermosas, cada entrega la conservo en mi corazón y estoy segura también quedaron impresas en el de Gael, fue un momento cargado de magia y una energía maravillosa de protección y cuidado hacia el bebé.
Para cerrar la ceremonia, los padres hicimos una ofrenda representando la energía del Amor y su hermanito Miguel leyó una oración hermosa que le escribió pidiendo luz para Gael y toda la familia.
Creo que en nuestras vidas podemos adaptar las ceremonias y eventos especiales y darles este toque de ritual, que para mí representa algo sagrado, algo que haces desde la conciencia, con tu atención plena en el momento para lograr algo.
Hasta bañarnos puede ser un ritual especial, solo debemos marcar nuestra atención e intención de que lo sea.

After I shared with you my experience with the ritual we did for my son Gael's blessing of the womb (you can see the post here), I was encouraged today to continue the story with another ritual we did a little after his birth.
Water Ceremony

I don't know if the tradition of "pouring water" on the babies before the baptism in the church is a Latin American custom, in my country it's done a lot and it's usually a very simple ritual with the parents, godparents and closest relatives of the baby.
There is no "official" guide on how to carry out this ritual, however, it is characterized by putting holy water on the child, saying a prayer to bless him/her, and asking God for guidance and protection, lighting a candle to illuminate these petitions.
In Gael's case it was a ritual quite different from the traditional. I will share with you the details of that very emotional and special day:
I asked the same friend who guided the womb blessing ritual to accompany us this time. Trusting in her guidance and intuition, she asked us to prepare the space with an object representative of each element (air, fire, water and earth), so we had candles to represent fire, incense to symbolize air, wheat for earth and holy water that could not be missing.
She began the ritual talking about the importance of godparents as guides in our lives, highlighting the commitment that should be assumed from the love and awareness of being present in the child's life from then on.
She then explained the symbolism of each of the elements, telling us that these were archetypal energies that directly affect our Being, our consciousness and our way of understanding and walking through the world.
Indeed, the 4 elements are forms of manifestation of energy, from its most subtle or immaterial aspect (air) to the most dense or material (earth). In general, the water element is associated with "purification", it is used to cleanse and remove impurities, it also has to do with emotions, sensitivity, fertility. It's the symbol of the spiritual birth, therefore it can never be absent in a baptism.
On the other hand, the air would be the most subtle aspect of the spirit (thoughts), as opposed to the earth that has to do with rootedness, with everything material. Fire is a symbol of initiation, spark, joy, passion and transmutation.
After their opening words, each one of the godparents chose an element to represent and they had to offer it to Gael saying phrases related to their element and blessing their path. I remember that the earth godmother offered the wheat asking for abundance, supply and prosperity in Gael's path, and also that he could walk with firm step his way through this land.
All the prayers were beautiful, each delivery I keep in my heart and I am sure they were also imprinted in Gael's heart, it was a moment full of magic and a wonderful energy of protection and care for the baby.
To close the ceremony, the parents made an offering representing the energy of Love and his little brother Miguel read a beautiful prayer that he wrote asking for light for Gael and the whole family.
I believe that in our lives we can adapt ceremonies and special events and give them this touch of ritual, which for me represents something sacred, something you do from the consciousness, with your full attention in the moment to achieve something.
Even taking a bath can be a special ritual, we just have to mark our attention and intention to make it so.
