Tomatoes, Reclaimed Lumber, Scouts - Wednesday

Woke up in the morning to clouds and the front edge of the storm moving over. It took till sun up for the rains to start and it went till after noon. We are full on into the wet season now and the entire weekend will be rainy. We need it for sure but it makes working outside a bit more troublesome.

After getting my laundry in the wash I worked on gathering all he ripe tomatoes from the bags in the living room. I have about enough to do another batch of paste which I will be working on today.

I watched the Man United match and CR7 did it again. They made a miraculous comeback against Atalanta and won 3-2. After the match I went and picked up J from school then once back on the farm I worked on the lumber. I found pieces that are about the same width and set about pulling all the nails from them.

There had been wood shingles on and each one had 2 - 4 nails. Plus the roofing nails and then the long nails holding the boards to the rafters.

It took me about an hour to get all the nails out of the 5 lengths of wood. Today I am going to cut them to size for building the sides for the trailer. I need the sides on before I can start hauling off the debris from the roofing project.

For cub scouts they got to test their popsicle stick bridges.

They setup between the tables and weights were added slowly.

The long bridge was only able to handle about 12 pounds before it gave up and crashed down.

J tried his which was a group of 9 sticks with 2 under to hold them together. It held all five 2 kilo weights and the thing was able to keep going. Cody and I then tried just a single stick with a weight scale and got about 8.5 pounds before a single popsicle stick broke in half. Extrapolating that the 9 could likely hold in the 70 pound range.

Back home we got to watch the Harvest Moon come up over the house as we soaked. This morning I got a great view if it when I went to town for grain.

The grain is dumped in the pen already and J to school. Today I am going to cut the wood for the trailer, get the tomatoes blanched and cooking down for paste, and keep studying for my exam on Saturday.
