Harvests, New Chair, Crawdad - Monday

Thankfully my back was a bit better yesterday morning so I was able to get out and pick. The squash managed 30 pounds from all the rows and I now have well over 200 pounds in the cooler and have picked 881 pounds so far in 30 days.

Once I was done with the squash we all got in the car and went to town to have breakfast with the in-laws at the Old European. On our way out J grabbed one of the local rags and the way he sat in his car seat reading it just made me laugh. He had the air of older about him.

On our way home we stopped at Costco to get a table and chairs but they didn't have the table we wanted. Did get a pair of office chairs as mine is over 15 years old. It wasn't until this year that the arm rest on the right side started to deteriorate and I really needed to get a new one. This new chair is pretty comparable to my old one except it is missing the seat tilt function, but I will get used to it.

It only took about 15 minutes to get it put together and moved to my computer.

Back on the farm and in the garden I made my way through the cucumber rows and pulled a dozen that were ready. A couple of them are over a foot long. I've picked 42 cucumbers since the first one was ready on July 8th.

The beans had been getting neglected and were needing to be picked badly. I rolled the cart down the rows and the first one gave me 9 pounds and a full bucket.

The other 2 rows gave me 12 pounds for a total of 21 pounds for the day. I have the other rows that I need to go back down and will get at least 20 more pounds.

@stryeyz and I went down to the creek to cool off and scrub the rocks a bit to clean off the algae. The daily or every other day visits to the pool are helping to keep the water clearer.

The crawdads were roaming around the creek and under the edge of the large rock on the other side. 2 of them were claw to claw and there seemed to be some tense moments between them. One was large, likely the male, and the other is smaller and mottled with less bright orange of a shell, likely a female.

I decided to see if I could hold the crawdad. I put my hands under the water and it ended up backing itself onto my arms underwater. I was able to lift it out of the water and it stayed in the same position until I lowered my arms back into the water and it zipped off.

Today I have to put the other chair together, pick squash and more beans, wash my clothes, buzz my hair,
and I need to try and get some chokecherries picked despite their smaller size this year.
