Today I want to share with you a house built by some friends and many other people who have transitioned in and out of this communitarian project. A big portion of this building consists of recycled and repurposed materials, as well as cob and other foraged natural elements.
As you might guess, one of the goals here is to be able to live abundantly while respecting and taking care of the land. Every time I visit this place I leave with tons of inspiration and admiration for the work and effort put into all of it.
It's a huge house and there are both bought and recycled materials used. There is tons of repurposing going on as well as great skills working with cob. Though the basic structure was done with lots of engineering, there has been plenty of room for experimentation and creativity.
While there is a lot more to do, it'll probably go quickly during the summer as many friends usually visit this place and dedicate a lot of time to making it progress.
Before I show you the inside of the house I would like you to see this. It's not a storage shed. This was the first building they lifted, here they had a kitchen to cook and sit by the fire. It was a humble beginning, and time has proven it was nothing to be frowned upon.
During summer I visited this place and they were still washing their dishes outside using this provisional setup. It's crazy what a big change has occurred during this year.
Since all the water from the sink was able to flow into the earth, these beautiful "quilas" were able to thrive. Quilas are a native plant to Chile and the stem is an awesome construction material, both flexible and sturdy. People used to make greenhouses from them before the forest was depredated, making them more scarce.
This is part of the old constructions as well. A place for the washing machine and a shower. I imagine it's still going to take some more time to update these.
Ok, now let's look inside.
Looks cozy doesn't it? Very illuminated in comparison to their old cooking place. There's definitely tons of work put into this.
Lots of sage here and all that mystical-spirit-of-old vibes going on. Magic all over the place.
The house is loaded with details and you can spend a lot of time staring at the different forms of art here and there.
After a long time using a sink outdoors and freezing their hands off to wash the dishes, now there is a comfortable and good looking sink inside the house.
Well, you've probably seen this a lot of times on the Internet, but that doesn't stop it from being beautiful and worth sharing. Bottles are given new life and looking great.
Sometimes you don't have to build. Sometimes it's just about giving shape to what already exists. Stairs to the bathroom.
More decor, most of these branches were picked up by the river and have so many interesting shapes.
This is one of the most insane designs of the house. I spent so much time looking at it and marveled at what was achieved. It's basically pieces of glass and branches joined by cob and layered with varnish.
Another angle to appreciate this awesome design.
Above the shelf is the burned remains of a vine called "boqui" that grows in some chilean forests.
This is the main area of the house, with a nice space for working on their projects and listening to music. There is a cool chill space at the middle but I got distracted and forgot to take a picture.
The entrance to the dry bathroom. Last time I came there wasn't a closed space to take a shit, but now you can easily go without getting the wind between your legs.
The throne. Still in construction but the system works. It has a separation for urine and feces. The sacks you see are filled with sawdust so once you've done you're business you cover it with this material which prevents odors from rising and will later help the composting be safer.
Those little branches on the left are quila, the plant I showed you before that was thriving where the old sink's water ran off.
More magic scattered through the house.
I found that the eating table in the kitchen was beautiful and it turned out to be a standard school table as used a decade or so ago that they repurposed.
Not all decoration in the place is based on dead branches and skulls, in case you were thinking so.
My friends here have learned many crafts over the years. By now they can work even metal structures which is pretty awesome. I'm more of a wood lover, but hey, pretty useful for recycling old stuff.
The garden though not much to see as winter is just ending and we are beginning spring here in the southern hemisphere. As you can see there are also a couple of greenhouses and a wallipini over in the back. Perhaps if I visit in the summer I can show a bit of all they grow there.
So, that's it. There were many other interesting spots to be seen but I didn't take pictures of everything, and had to leave many other photos out of the post so it wouldn't be so long. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una casa construida por algun-s amig-s y muchas otras personas que han entrado y salido de este proyecto comunitario. Una gran parte de este edificio consta de materiales reciclados y reutilizados, así como adobe y otros elementos obtenidos de la Tierra.
Como pueden imaginar, uno de los objetivos aquí es poder vivir en abundancia respetando y cuidando la Tierra. Cada vez que visito este lugar me voy con mucha inspiración y admiración por el trabajo y esfuerzo que se ha puesto en todo esto.
Es una casa enorme y se utilizaron materiales tanto comprados como reciclados. Hay montones de reutilización, así como buenas habilidades para trabajar con barro. Aunque la estructura básica se hizo con mucha ingeniería práctica, ha habido mucho espacio para la experimentación y la creatividad.
Si bien queda bastante por hacer, es probable que avancen rápido durante el verano, ya que muchos amigos suelen visitar este lugar y dedican mucho tiempo a que progrese. Lo bello de estas construcciones es que siempre están en evolución, son casas "vivas".
Antes de mostrarles el interior de la casa, me gustaría que vieran esto. No es solamente una bodega y leñera. Este fue la primera construcción que levantaron, aquí tenían una cocina para preparar la comida y sentarse junto al fuego. Fue un comienzo humilde, y el tiempo ha demostrado que no era nada que mirar en menos.
Durante el verano visité este lugar y todavía estaban lavando sus platos afuera usando esta instalación provisional. Es una locura la cantidad de cambios que han ocurrido durante este año.
Dado que toda el agua del lavaplatos pudo fluir hacia la tierra, estas hermosas "quilas" prosperaron. Las quilas son una planta nativa de Chile y el tallo sirve de material de construcción flexible y resistente. La gente solía hacer invernaderos con ellos antes de que el bosque fuera depredado, lo que los ha hecho más escasos.
Esto también es parte de las construcciones antiguas. Un lugar para la lavadora y una ducha. Aún no han modernizado estos servicios, pero se viene.
Ahora veamos que sucede dentro de la casa.
Acogedor, ¿sionooo? Muy iluminado en comparación con la antigua cocina. Se nota el trabajo invertido en esto desde el primer momento en que uno entra.
Mucha salvia por aquí y todas esas vibras de espíritu místico de antaño. Magia por todos lados.
La casa está cargada de detalles y puedes pasar horas mirando las diferentes formas de arte aquí y allá.
Después de mucho tiempo usando un fregadero al aire libre y congelando sus manos para lavar los platos, ahora hay un lavaplatos cómodo y bello dentro de la casa.
Bueno, probablemente hayas visto esto muchas veces en Internet, pero eso no impide que sea hermoso y valga la pena compartirlo. Botellas con vida nueva y que aportan estéticamente a la construcción. Creo que no está demás recordar que de otra forma serían basura por ahí.
A veces no es necesario construir. A veces se trata solo de dar forma a lo que ya existe. Escaleras al baño.
Buena parte de la decoración consiste de ramas con formats únicas recogidas al borde del río.
Este es uno de los diseños más locos y que me gustaron de la casa. Pasé mucho tiempo mirándolo y me maravillé de lo que se logró. Básicamente son trozos de vidrio y ramas unidas por mezcla de barro y recubiertas de barniz.
Otro ángulo pa apreciar el diseño.
Sobre los estantes están los restos quemados de una enredadera nativa de Chile llamada "boqui" (también puede ser "voqui").
Esta es la zona principal de la casa, con un agradable espacio para trabajar en sus proyectos y escuchar música. Hay un espacio para compartir con acceso directo a la tierra en el medio, pero me distraje y me olvidé de tomar una foto.
La entrada al baño seco. La última vez que vine no había un espacio completamente cerrado para cagar, pero ahora puedes ir fácilmente sin tener el viento entre las piernas.
El trono 🤣. Todavía en construcción pero el sistema funciona. Tiene una separación para orina y caca. Los sacos que ves están llenos de aserrín, así que una vez que hayas terminado tu negocio, lo cubres con este material que evita que los olores se eleven y luego ayudará a que el compostaje sea más seguro.
Esas ramitas de la izquierda son quila, la planta que les mostraba que prosperó donde antes corría el agua del lavaplatos.
Más magia regada por la casa.
Me gustó esta mesa en la cocina y resultó ser una mesa escolar como la que se usaba hace aproximadamente una década y que fue arreglada para un nuevo uso.
No toda la decoración del lugar está basada en ramas muertas y calaveras, por si lo pensabas. También hay ternura y dulzura.
Mis amig-s aquí han aprendido a trabajar muchas herramientas y tipos de material a lo largo de los años. A estas alturas pueden trabajar incluso estructuras metálicas, lo cual me impresiona. Soy más amante de la madera, pero esto es bastante útil para reciclar cosas viejas.
El huerto, aunque aún no hay mucho que ver, ya que el invierno acaba de terminar y nosotros recién comenzamos la primavera aquí en el hemisferio sur. Como puede ver, también hay un par de invernaderos y un wallipini en la parte de atrás. Quizás si visito en verano pueda mostrar un poco de todo lo que allí cultivan.
Eso es todo por hoy, salió largo el post. Había muchos otros lugares interesantes para ver, pero no tomé fotos de todo y tuve que dejar muchas otras fotos fuera de la publicación para que no fuera tan larga.
