I live in Lagos State, Nigeria. I was returning from work on Friday evening when I saw in Oshodi, (my fellow Lagosians will understand) a lady carrying two babies on both shoulders. She also had another baby tied with a wrapper around her back. There was a little boy walking beside her about the age of 5 years old also carrying another baby.

The four babies were wearing the same type of clothing. They were about 3 months old or so. It was obvious the lady had a quadruplet.

What actually drew my attention to her was the fact that herself and her kids were umkept. The kids looked very malnourished and were wearing dirty clothes.

I was in so much pain. Why bring kids into this world to suffer?. I thought to myself probably she had that boy walking beside her first and then got pregnant without the intention of having quadruplet (four babies). She had no control over this.

What about other women who are in terrible conditions and keep giving birth every year, subjecting the kids to pain and hardship.

I feel sad when I see kids on the streets begging when they should be in school. I blame their parents. If you don't have the financial capacity to raise a child, you shouldn't have them. If you are so desperate to have kids then you should have just one.

Although there are some exceptions like cases of rape that results into pregnancy, kids separated from their families as a result of war, natural disasters or death etc. These kids will be deprived of a normal childhood of love and care.

I like China's birth control policy because it not only helps to curb population growth but to also improve the welfare of women and children. I think this should be implemented worldwide.

I am a Nigerian and the poverty rate in Nigeria is about 40 percent of the total population - The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) . It's common to see women in my country giving birth to more than five children with no means of raising them.

According to Unicef, children deprived of parental care, can endure physical, psychological, emotional and social harm – with consequences that last a lifetime. These children are also more likely to experience violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

In my opinion, couples who are living in poverty should wait till they are ready both financially and mentally before bringing kids to this world. We already have enough children suffering, let's not add to the numbers.
