ONE INDIVIDUAL, ONE ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

I was born and raised in the middle of Vietnam. This is considered the harshest land in our country, with erratic sunshine and rain. A place that often suffers from natural disasters, especially storms and floods. 2020 is a year that we can't forget. The COVID pandemic has had a severe impact on social life. Not only that, our middle country was ravaged by storms and floods unprecedented in history in 2020.

The Earth is our home. We, humans and the nature that surrounds us are connected. And the destruction and wrong use of our environment could lead to the destruction of our planet including ourselves.

The world is now experiencing climate change caused greatly by human activities. Its effects are now felt by any individuals but still play ignorant and continue what they're doing. Driven only by selfish desires concerning their present status and not thinking of the next generation that could inherit its violent effects.

Keep an eye on your waste

Faced with the question of what we need to do to protect the environment and mitigate climate change, I believe that every person, even a 6-year-old child, can name many actions that we can take to create positive change to our living environment. Yes, the education and propaganda that can be found everywhere on the news and the internet has given us a relatively sufficient knowledge about the effects of climate change and the measures to limit it, from individual actions to macro-calls. We all know that it is necessary to protect forests, to plant more trees, to limit waste, to eliminate industries that pollute the environment.

Fighting climate change - do gooder or do bester?

I am going to speak from the heart, I am not good at telling stories, so bear with me.

In 2011, I started to get involved in some climate change movements which helped me to learn a thing or two about climate change, I was lucky to be aware of this crisis from such a young age.

Our first campaign was part of a series of activities in the "Earth Hour" movement which was organized annually in March, you may also have heard about it.

Our job was encouraging people to turn off their idling engines while waiting at the traffic lights. This is based on the idea that it could help prevent releasing CO2 in the environment, keep the air healthier and save fuel.

Climate Change and the Economy

Ever since I was very young my father was most concerned with climate change and what he termed, “Runaway Greenhouse Effect.” His talk of how close we were to so many tipping points that if triggered, may cause the climate to spin so far out of control that the earths oceans boil away into space, made a big impression on me.It seems like to this day, there is a wide range of opinions on how dangerous climate change is and the facts concerning the issue are difficult to understand. Without a clear understanding and widely available facts about how quickly things are changing, I think it is more difficult to take proper action. Encouraging the publication of clearly understandable facts and charts would be helpful. Stressing near term effects instead of relating problems that might occur a long time in the future would be of benefit. It is hard enough to predict the weather a week in the future and I think long range projections on climate change are not very beneficial.
