QUESTION OF THE WEEK 9.2 : If there is a God why is there so much suffering in the world?

There is no simple way to give a direct answer to this question. However in my own perspective, here are a couple of reasons I think that there is so much suffering in the world, despite the claims of a God being In charge of all our activities. The first reason I would like to talk about, is "we humans being the sole creators of our own problems". Here is a really good instance: the way we treat the earth carelessly, we have watched the earth go from green to brown right before our own eyes and have done little or nothing about it, yet we keep preparing for war, and my question all the time is whom are we fighting actually? Within the last two years, the world we used to know drifted even further away from us as the corona virus attacked us without remorse. And we as all know it all began because we refused to do what was right, and in the end we payed and are still paying the cost for our actions. We always pride ourselves as the masters of this universe, yet we show little care to place we are supposed to protect at all cost.

Secondly, another reason why I think there is so much suffering in this word is the fact that we lack compassion towards one another. Yes, it is true that no one owes each other anything; however, my argument with this statement is where exactly do we draw the line in all of these? Does it mean that anyone among us who has it better should strictly mind he's/her business? We must all remember that what affects one affects us all. One person can't solve all the problems of the world, but that little genuine act of kindness can change a life or lives forever and make great impact.

Another reason on my mind, is that I think that somehow we are following the natural path of nature, in terms of the natural disasters that occur, (not the ones aided by our own action), sicknesses, death and so on, through out the course of history, we have always had harsh events some even allot more scarier than what we have today and these was before man was recorded to ever exist scientifically. Could it be that we are witnessing a cycle that has been programmed to occur even before we arrived here?

In conclusion, permit me to take our minds on a little ride in history. If you have payed a carful attention to various religion stories around the world from different religions, you would find a common trait amongst them all and this is that at some point, some being came to meet a certain group of people, stayed with them for some time, taught them about several thing, and finally left them physically. From this little narration I gave I want us to pin point a particular key word which is " the being came and left".

Now before the arrival of a being to it's followers in religion stories, suffering already did exists and after the being left, suffering still continued since these facts have always been true, then why do we say God is powerful to save us from evil or harm and why do we pray to a God as well? Digging deeper, you will find out that the existence of God does not mean the exit of evil. Good and Evil are two powerful forces that we as human beings unfortunately found ourselves in. every one of us has a trait of both and sometimes we find ourselves conflicting on which path to follow. With that being said, we all can agree now at least that having a belief in God doesn't eliminate suffering and evil from this world.

But! Answering this question has left a room for another question in my mind which is: if there is a God why does bad things happen to people, without any warning sign? Thinking about this again, I can't find of any answers to give other than to say that there are mysteries that even science can't answer and no amount of thinking or questions would satisfy our curiosity, however we all can agree that we as humans are free and the choices we make reflect of the actions that follow afterwards.

The existence of a God is to act as a moral guide to those who believe, and finally there are mysteries that we have no answers to yet.
