Today is the last day of 2021 and in some hours time we'd start a fresh new year. This calls for celebrations, isn't it? It has been a long year with so much to be grateful for and beginning a new chapter of one's life is worthy to be thankful for. 2021 was eventful, there are so many talking points and this is the more reason why we need to celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.

Celebrations will not be complete without food and drinks. So, today I joined so many other people to carry out my end of the year/new year shopping for the family. It's just a week ago that I shared with you all how busy the markets were for Christmas shopping and trust me it's more busier today. The reason is simple. Christmas shopping was mostly for Christians that celebrate Christmas but the New Year shopping is for all, irrespective of your religion.

There are certain goods that are classified as seasonal goods. They are available for sale during a particular festive season or planting season, whichever the case may be. So, I observed that I didn't see as much Christmas tree, Christmas lights and caps as I saw in the market last week.

Goods like this may not be in demand since Christmas celebration have passed, so the people into the business may have moved to their former business and will restart the sale of Christmas products when the festive season is approaching next year.

There are so many fresh peppers and tomatoes in the market at relatively low prices. They look big, reddish and fresh. It is only the onions that is still quite expensive. The onion sellers also complain about how high a bag of onion has become in the past months but hope it will normalize before the middle of February. Pepper, tomatoes, and onions are very important in any Nigerian meal and it may be difficult to eat good food if the prices are too high.

I intend to prepare a pot of ogbono soup, so I bought some vegetables, ugu leaves to be precise. Ugu is a common vegetable in Nigeria with so much health benefits. Most times, I prefer the leaves to be sliced in the market. I don't know why but I think it makes cooking easy. The only thing I need to do is to wash thoroughly and sprinkle on the soup when it is time. I also got some stock fish and inu eran (inu eran, is a Yoruba word for some of the edible inner parts of an animal like liver, towel (shaki), intestines etc)

I had a stress-free shopping today because I did majority of the shopping last week. There are still some ingredients in the house, so I'm just trying to get a few fresh ones and also restocking the ones that have finished.

Thank you for your time lovelies.
