There are millions of children in the world and each community has its "good ration" so I always ask myself: As adults, how much do we do to integrate them into community participation? What opportunities do we give them to become aware of the social issues around them? Or how much do we contribute, as individuals and as a community, to their integral formation?
And when I speak of integral formation I include: games, sports, reading, theater, painting, music, creative writing and any other non-school activity and that surely within the same community there are human resources that can channel the inclinations and interests of children.
I live in a sector made up of nine neighborhoods with more than 20 thousand people. In the sector there are schools, high schools, 4 sports fields, a 5 star hotel, 3 private clubs, a National Park with mountain climate, commercial activity and a medical service module. There are no playgrounds, cultural center, library, or any other activity aimed at children; the courts are free for use by teenagers. Specifically, in the neighborhood where I live, there is a badminton team, an initiative of a physical education teacher belonging to the community. This context can be used to answer the questions:
Do you want to improve things? Do you want to improve things, what actions do you want to see in your neighborhood?
Undoubtedly my community offers little or no option to our children to develop complementary activities that help them to enhance their skills and abilities, cultivate in them the artistic and recreational aspects that stimulate their creativity, the good to do, group interaction with common interests and at the same time contribute to form a sense of belonging that encourages them to be cooperative and part of the solution of some aspects that improve the quality of life of all neighbors such as: to join the local campaigns of cleaning and conservation of green areas; to maintain a civic behavior in accordance with peaceful and respectful coexistence, among others.
The idea fits very well with the Broken Windows Theory since in general people tend to perform the actions we see, and if a large group of children participate in constructive activities, parents, other children and adolescents will probably join in these actions.
That is why among the actions I would like to see in my neighborhood are:
1.- Create a cultural center whose activities include:
A library with children's, youth and general literature.
A video library with the possibility of holding film forums.
An art workshop offering: drawing, painting, sculpture...
Permanent workshops for: theater, literary creation, playing a musical instrument, etc.
2.- -To make my community's sports field a more inclusive space for children, with sports monitors to guide the various sports and recreational activities.
It is an ambitious proposal, however, it is completely feasible, if we take into account that the concept of "cultural center" does not necessarily have to be a unique and exclusive physical space. As an example I can point out that in the last quarter of 2019 I started in my house a small club for children readers, the main objective was to create motivation towards reading with a view to extend it to theatrical activity and literary creation. Due to the pandemic we suspended the activity which we hope to resume at the beginning of next year 2022.
In the community there is a great potential of men and women with diverse skills that could be facilitators of these activities, it is a matter of motivating, leading and managing.

Niños, hay por millones en el mundo y cada comunidad tiene su “buena ración” por lo que siempre me pregunto: ¿Cómo adultos, qué tanto hacemos para integrarlos a la participación comunitaria? ; ¿Qué oportunidades les brindamos para que se sensibilicen en lo social que lo rodean? o ¿Cuánto aportamos, cómo personas y como comunidad, para su formación integral?
Y cuando hablo de formación integral en ella incluyo: juegos, deportes, lecturas, teatro, pintura, música, escritura creativa y cualquier otra actividad no escolarizada y que seguramente dentro de la misma comunidad existen los recursos humanos que pueda canalizar las inclinaciones e intereses infantiles.
Vivo en un sector conformado por nueve barrios con más de 20 mil personas. En el sector existen escuelas, liceos, 4 canchas deportivas, un hotel 5 estrellas, 3 clubs privados, un Parque Nacional con clima de montaña, actividad comercial y un módulo de servicio médico. No hay parques infantiles, centro cultural, biblioteca ni ninguna actividad dirigida a la población infantil, las canchas tienen un uso libre donde los más beneficiados son los adolescentes. De manera puntual, en el barrio donde vivo, existe un equipo de bádminton iniciativa de un profesor de educación física perteneciente a la comunidad. Sirva este contexto para responder las preguntas:
¿Quieres mejorar las cosas?, ¿Qué acciones quieres ver en tu barrio?
Indudablemente mi comunidad ofrece poca o ninguna opción a nuestros niños para desarrollar actividades complementarias que le ayuden a potenciar sus competencias y habilidades, cultivar en ellos los aspectos artísticos y recreativos que estimulen su creatividad, el bien hacer, la interacción grupal con intereses comunes y que al mismo tiempo contribuyan a formar un sentido de pertenencia que lo impulse a ser cooperativo y parte de la solución de algunos aspectos que mejoren la calidad de vida de todos los vecinos como son: integrarse a las campañas locales de limpieza y conservación de las áreas verdes; mantener un comportamiento cívico acorde con la convivencia pacífica y respetuosa, entre otras.
La idea encaja muy bien en la Teoría de las Ventanas Rotas ya que por lo general las personas tendemos a realizar las acciones que vemos y si un nutrido grupo de niños son partícipe de actividades constructivas los padres, otros niños y adolescentes probablemente se unan a estas acciones.
Es por ello que entre las acciones que me gustaría ver en mi barrio se encuentran:
1.- Crear un centro cultural cuyas actividades contemplen:
Una biblioteca con literatura infantil, juvenil y
general
Una videoteca con posibilidades de realizar cine-foros
Un taller de arte donde se ofrezca: dibujo, pintura,
escultura…
Talleres permanentes de: teatro, creación literaria,
ejecución de algún instrumento musical
2.- Hacer de la cancha de mi comunidad un espacio más inclusivo para los más pequeños contando con monitores deportivos que orienten las diversas actividades deportivas-recreativas.
Es una propuesta ambiciosa, sin embargo, es completamente factible, si tomamos en cuenta que el concepto de “centro cultural”, no necesariamente tiene que ser un espacio físico único y exclusivo. Como ejemplo puedo señalar que en el último trimestre del año 2019 inicié en mi casa un pequeño club de niños lectores, el objetivo principal era crear motivación hacia la lectura con miras a extenderlo a la actividad teatral y la creación literaria. Por la pandemia suspendimos la actividad la cual esperamos reanudar a inicios del próximo año 2022.
En la comunidad hay un gran potencial de hombres y mujeres con diversas habilidades que pudiesen ser facilitadores de estas actividades, es cuestión de motivar, liderar y gestionar.
