Ecotrain Question of the Week// Can Spirituality and Technology Live Together?

I think that technology and spirituality have been coexisting right from the time of creation. From the Christian point of view, I think God is the inventor of technology by the creation of man and his environment. Technology simply means the act of applying scientific methods/knowledge in inventing useful things or solving a particular problem. Which in common sense implies that God is the first inventor by the virtue of creation.

Hence, he is the fountain, of which the ideas, inspirations, and revelation as regards to technology, all originate from. He made man, and made man worthy of tapping from the fountain of knowledge — HIM, as a result man is able to invent and enhance the growth of technology.

However, just like Newton's third law, God isn't the only source of knowledge, ideas and inspirations. There ought to be another source, with an intent different from that of God.

Yes, technology has enhanced the spread of the gospel in so many ways, but its effect on our spiritual lives, I think, will overshadow its advantages in the near future. We all know the role of technology has and will continue to play in helping the spread of the good news to the four corners of the earth. But at the same time, its negative effects are on a progressive trend.

The advancement of technology has not only made man doubt the existence of God but has also made him so busy that he barely spends time with his creator.

If man is able to solve all his problems through science and technology, then I see him not having any reason to commune with God. In fact he will consider himself as a god. And realistically speaking, we are not too fast from that point.

The distraction brought upon us by technology is the sole aim of the other source of technological knowledge and ideas. And currently, they are winning the battle. Most of the things that were considered evil are now seen as norms — thanks to technology.

Some argue that there's a need for balance between technology and spirituality. In one way, yes it is necessary; man has to understand that the position of his creator in his life is irreplaceable. On the other hand, I see it not happening. There can't be a balance between technology and spirituality. With the trend in our society today, I see technology overshadowing spirituality.

Yes there are the strong-willed ones that are ready to sustain the balance (especially in their personal life) but my question is; will they be able to withstand the pressure from society? And if they eventually do, how far can they go?

In conclusion, technology has a close relationship with spirituality. In fact, technology is dependent on spirituality. The two have been coexisting right since the time of creation and will continue to coexist till the end of the world — that's if there would be one.
However, one (technology) has serious detrimental effects on the other (spirituality, as regards Christianity).

This is my personal view about the abovementioned topic. Thanks for coming around.
