Our Thriving Little Garden

It's growing!

Our little vegetable garden has been under scorching desert summer heat the past week, and the couple of days that were cloudy and rainy were badly needed by these poor plants.

We were blessed with a lots of rain the other day, thanks to UAE's cloud seeding efforts. The kids enjoyed a spectacle of lightnings and thunderstorm Wednesday night, and the following morning we saw happy plants!

Look at this! I've pictured my thumb next to the bitter gourd as reference.

We're so happy to see a few of them grow big (there are three). Over the past months, even in the cooler weather, they did not grow as big. They wilted after budding about an inch.

Here's the other one. Another is hiding behind this grey box.

@kennyroy actually already picked the one on the top photo, before insects could get to the gourd. Hmmm, it would be nice in a stir fry with the squash I have in the fridge!

Pleasant Day

The pleasant weather continued until today. The kids were able to get a few minutes of sunshine earlier in the morning, while it was windy in the afternoon.

I spent some time sitting outside, just feeling the breeze on my face, almost wishing I was by the beach.

Can you see @kennyroy busy with a new project in his garden?! Maybe I'll show on another post how he repurposed something for his plants.

In the meanwhile, see what he did here, for the water spinach. I bought a couple of bunches last week, and these uncertain times we thought of planting some stalks here where the pipe from the AC flows.

The water from the AC upstairs flows through this hose.
Happy water spinach!

Oh, if only we had this kind of weather the whole year long, then maybe we can plant more vegetables here...

So might as well just enjoy it while it lasts.
