Maahes was an #ancient #Egyptian lion-headed #god of war whose name can be translated as "he who is true beside her."
He was born to the creator god Ptah and the feline goddess Bast/ Sekhmet, whose nature he shared.
#Maahes was a deity associated with war, protection and weather mainly. Other themes were also that he was depicted with knives, #lotus #flowers and devouring captives.
His cult was based in Taremu and Per-Bast, the cult centers of Sekhmet and Bast, respectively.
Apedemak or Apademak was a very important god in the ancient Nubian pantheon. Apedemak, who is often depicted as a being with a male human torso and a lion's head, was considered a war god worshipped by the Meroitic peoples of Nubia. Some say he has no Egyptian counterpart. I think Maahes may be his parallel.
As a war god, Apedemak symbolized warlike power to the Meroitic peoples, as well as military achievement and the Empire (not the one from Star Wars, but the one from long ago).
Apedemak is also associated with Amun, an Egyptian deity from the previous Napatan period. Since this has the same characters like Apedemak.
In the Greek mythology a sphinx or many sphinxes is/ are a mythical creature with the head of a human, the body of a lion and the wings of an eagle, and, according to some, a serpent's tail.
The legend told us, if I remember right, that she was sent by the gods to plague the town of Thebes as punishment for some ancient crime, preying on its youths and devouring all who failed to solve her riddle.
The regent of Thebes, King Kreon, offered the throne to the one who would win against her. Oedipus took up the challenge, and when he solved the Sphinx's riddle, she cast herself off the mountainside in despair.
In mythology, she is described as treacherous and ruthless, a monster, and she kills and eats those who cannot answer her riddles. This deadly version of a sphinx appears in the #myth and drama of Oedipus.
