Dumb Fucks

I regularly write about the overwhelming concentration of idiocy that's found its way into the post-Trump Republican party, and how these people seem to take actual pride in the revelry of their ignorance. But if I'm perfectly honest, this QAnon believing, election result denying, anti-mask, anti-vax and climate change ignoring caricature is a perfect model for all of modern humanity...

Yeah, we're dumb fucks. As a collective that is. The planet is slowly suffocating under the pressure of the war we're waging against it. The first sign of how utterly stupid we are, as a collective, as a species, is that we think we can win that war. We can't. If the planet dies, it won't go down alone, it'll take us with it. And that's kind of a "best case scenario" because the planet won't die, and I have this rather firm suspicion that the planet has already started its counter-attack. Summers are getting hotter, and we're facing winters where variations of the virus we collectively failed to overcome will cause more mayhem, panic, economic depression and death as time goes on. And in the meantime individuals are losing their way, falling victim to modern social diseases like stress, depression, loneliness... All these problems, this lunacy on a planetary scale, is the result of our failure to act as a collective, a result of the individualist fundamentalism that has caused us to lose touch with each other, with Mother Earth and, let's not forget, with reality itself. Carl Sagan saw this coming 256 years ago:

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance"

The MSNBC segment linked above glibly mentions Carl Sagan's criticism about the lack of diversity and human chauvinism in the Star Wars movies before quoting the same text from his book The Demon Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark, all without giving any kind of background information or opinion on why Sagan was right. I guess that's to be expected, and MSNBC perfectly plays their role as part of the 'enormously influential media' that show 'the slow decay of substantive content,' as predicted by Sagan... Fortunately we know better, better than MSNBC at least; what we see happening is our failure to recognize the truth that we're all connected, to each other and the planet. It's the collective delusion of individualism and the ravaging of the planet as well as each other in the name of profits and growth. We're in a war against the planet and each other, a war we can't possibly win...

Capitalism vs Freedom. Capitalism vs The Planet. Capitalism vs Our Continued Existence. These are all valid expressions of the state of the human condition. Watch the below linked video; in it is explained how the Great Men of our times conquer space as their personal hobby and as a way to make even more money in the future. Branson, Bezos and Musk are depicted in the media that's trying to dumb us down as our modern heroes, our real-world Iron Men. Going to space is heralded as a daring, courageous individual adventure, when in fact it's funded by our tax money and executed by some of the biggest offenders in the above mentioned war. Don't be a dumb fuck; don't fall for this utterly stupid narrative. We need to come together, cooperate as a species, or the apocalypse will come. Sure, we can all individually try to prepare as best we can to weather the coming storm, but we can only collectively prevent the storm from ever happening. There are no individual solutions to collective problems; it's about time we accept that truth...
