Timeline of how a centralized social network on the internet with more than three billion users could be inaccessible in just an instant.

Yep, we are talking about Facebook. But not only about Facebook, but on Facebook and also its other related online star applications like Instagram and Whatsapp. So the user base that today could not access their accounts due to the suddenly online outage easily could have been well beyond of merely three billion users.

There are rumors that this interruption could have been due to an error in the DNS servers "Domain Name System" which possibly was also combined with an additional problem such as internal BGP routing "Border Gateway Protocol"

"BGP is the internet's postal system. It is a protocol by which internet providers' routers know how to send network packets to the corresponding network segments and specific IP addresses"

"Without these records, browsers and apps do not know how to find the servers that deliver the content of social networks"

Since the beginning of this year, there have already been various incidents and some problems with DNS ISPs that caused widespread outages of several major portals and websites. But it is rather rare that these problems affect only to a tech giant like Facebook, or that the problem remains unsolved for a long time.

However, it is quite curious that the interruption of Facebook services occurred just the day after the broadcast of an interview given by a former Facebook employee who leaked documents about the company.

Frances Haugen told US network CBS News on Sunday that the company had prioritized "growth over the safety" of its users.

This Tuesday, Haugen was due to testify before an US Senate subcommittee at a hearing on Facebook's investigation into the effect of Instagram on the mental health of young people.

On other hand.

Mark Zuckerberg's firm through its global head of safety, Antigone Davis, has said that the leak is misleading, as it ensures that it is a biased interpretation of the data. And that it ignores a positive investigation previously carried out by the company.

Before the facts and statements presented by both parties. I, like many others, are inclined to think if it has not been facebook the one who withdrew on purpose (for reasons still unknown) their own routes from the BGP ad system and as such they removed themselves from the internet becoming their services inaccessible.

Well, I dunno. I just say. As for instance, that these "unknown reasons" have been for just gain some time as to have had the opportunity to properly modify and make up the internal data that potentially would incriminate them in the accusations that will be presented by Frances Haugen before the US Senate subcommittee tomorrow against Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. ¿What do you think is the truth about it?
