Twitter Hack Leads to Over $130,000 BTC Scam from High Profile Accounts Like Gates, Obama, Musk

A recent flurry of Twitter messages from popular personalities and companies had offered to give people double the amount of Bitcoin that they would send to a bitcoin address. The general message read:

I am doubling all payments sent to my BTC address for the next 30 minutes. You send $1,000, I send you back $2,000.

This type of message was sent from the accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Apple, Joe Biden, Jeff Bezoz and more.

This was a clever hack. Apparently a Twitter employee with access to the management panel of all users was hacked. This allowed the nefarious perpetrator to send out messages on behalf of popular users to con people into "Free BTC".

Apparently, people should disable third party services to avoid having a message like this appear on your account. You can go to settings-> account -> apps and sessions -> then revoke access from all third party apps.

Twitter is investigating, and some people may not be able to Tweet or reset their passwords as a result.

Before you knew this, looking at a single of the above messages, would you have done it?

I find this hilarious. Are these suckers not aware of these types of scams? Are they really not aware of the bullshit "send me $1 and I will send you $2 back" frauds that have existed for decades? I guess we can blame email spam filters for being too good.

Honestly, how can you fall for this? Obama said he's going to give me double what I send him in BTC? Biden? Gates? As if these people have any respect for Bitcoin to begin with. As if they would use Bitcoin to give out free money? Cmon people, get a freaking clue!

You aren't getting your money back sucker. It's a shame people fall for it, but damn people, do a bit more critical thinking rather than succumb to a FOMO of a 30 minute window to get something for nothing. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Just because some famous person or company said they are going to do it, will they really? There is no other explanation that this totally being legit and real? You didn't exactly talk to them face to face.

I guess this is an excuse some will use to "prove" how dangerous Bitcoin is. We need to control that Bitcoin stuff because stupid people are falling for obvious scams. Personal responsibility? Nah. We need to coddle them like children. They can't be allowed to use BTC :P
