**Saludos y Bienvenidos a mi Blog**. Hoy quiero hablarles sobre un aprendizaje de vida que cuando fui adolescente me hizo cambiar la perspectiva ante las diferentes dificultades que se presentaban. Mi papá siempre tenía una historia para todo, algo típico de los mayores, y me contó una historia sobre un Dilema, algo que me invitaba a pensar y analizar profundamente, y que en su momento fallé como debía fallar para aprender a través de una lección. ###

Una tarde de lluvia, la compañia de mi papá y sus enseñanzas

** Recuerdo cuando era adolescente, viviendo en Caracas compartí un momento con mi papá, y es que a él siempre le gustaba mucho ver la lluvia caer, sentir el frio y el olor a humedad, siempre acompañado de un café, lo disfrutaba mucho, incluso si se trataba de un torrencial, igual siempre le gustaba abrir la puerta principal de la casa y sentarse a ver todo ese regalo de la naturaleza. Yo lo acompañaba con una manta que llevaba en mis hombros, era una **Manta Corta** que me gustaba mucho.

Un Reto... A pensar

Esa tarde mi papá me miró y me dijo: Si estás sola en algún lugar, y hace mucho, mucho frío y solo tienes para arroparte esa manta pequeña que tienes en tus hombros, que harías para no morir de frío: ¿Te cubres la cabeza o te cubres los pies? Piensa bien, lo que mejor te conviene. Pero sabes que la manta es muy corta y no puedes cubrirte toda, debes elegir ¿Qué harías?

Parecía una pregunta simple, con dos opciones simples, no podía fallar, recuerdo que le dije que me cubría los pies, y el me dijo que sentiría mucho frío en la cabeza y la necesitaba para estar despierta, que no podía dormirme. También le dije: Me cubro la cabeza entonces. Y mi papá me dijo: Con los pies desprotegidos se te congelarían hasta las piernas, y el frío por los pies te puede paralizar. Le dije algunas otras opciones más tontas. Pero el me decía que la manta era muy pequeña y no podría hacer ninguna otra posición para cubrirme toda, que era imposible, así que las dos opciones eran demasiado difíciles de ejecutar, muy incómodas y además igualmente me generaban desamparo y terminarían congelándome.

Entonces... ¿Qué hago?

** No lograba dar la respuesta correcta, y la pregunta era tan tonta que eso me frustraba. **Y mi papá dijo:** Yo creo que puedes hacer ejercicios para calentar tu cuerpo. También podrías ir a una esquina del cuarto y ver si hace más calor ahí. Pero eso es una pregunta trampa, pensé que solo podía tener esas dos opciones. Y mi papá me dijo: Exacto..! Es una pregunta trampa o una situación trampa, y en la vida también se te van a aparecer situaciones trampas donde creerás que tienes pocas opciones para resolver un problema, donde creerás que tienes que elegir entre algo malo y algo peor. **Pero siempre tienes más opciones, si piensas, si ves todas las posibilidades, si solo te levantas sueltas esa manta y piensas en que más puedes hacer.** En realidad él trató de manipular mis respuestas, haciéndome sentir que estaba realmente limitada a esas dos opciones: Cubrir mi cabeza o cubrir mis pies. Ese es precisamente el ejercicio mental que él quiso que yo hiciera. Y me sentí tan tonta, pero a la vez fijé una **Imagen Mental** que nunca me abandonaría, esa imagen **de mí parándome, tirando la manta al piso y caminando viendo a mi alrededor que otras opciones tengo para resolver algo.**

Esta simple historia y reflexión me sirvió muy rápido, ya que poco tiempo después me gradué de Bachiller en Humanidades, en la antigua U.E. Gran Colombia, y mi sueño era estudiar Derecho en la Universidad Santa María, en la Urbina, de verdad que lo deseaba, esa universidad es hermosa y tienen gran prestigio. Pero me llevé una gran desilusión cuando mis padres me dijeron que no podían costearla, no teníamos suficiente dinero para pagar alquiler, todos los gastos familiares y además esa universidad.

Así que me dijeron que revisara las otras opciones que tenía en las universidades públicas, pero yo no quería estudiar en otro lugar, **no quería elegir entre otras dos universidades que no me gustaban**, quería que fuese la **Universidad Santa María**. Así que una noche estábamos conversando sobre mis otras opciones y yo me paré y les dije: **Ya lo tengo, voy a trabajar, y me voy a pagar mi carrera, pero voy a estudiar Derecho en la Universidad Santa María...** Mis padres se impactaron, no se imaginaban esa posibilidad, yo solo tenía 16 años, ni siquiera podía trabajar, pero tenía esa idea ya en la mente. Al día siguiente compré el periódico y empecé a leer clasificados de trabajo, y con bolígrafo en mano a hacer círculos y anotar teléfonos.

Mi papá al verme tan decidida, no quería que yo trabajara en cualquier lugar, así que al día siguiente habló con su jefe y me consiguió una entrevista para un trabajo en un banco muy prestigioso, que está ubicado en la Av. Andrés Bello de Caracas, y comencé a trabajar como Pasante Ince en Insbanca y postulada y contratada por ese Banco. Y rápidamente comencé a ganar mi dinero y pude ingresar en la Universidad Santa María, a estudiar Derecho, en el día trabajaba y en la noche estudiaba, fue muy duro pero yo estaba muy Feliz, no solo estudiaba donde quería, sino que ya sabía que podía gestionar y solucionar problemas, ya sabía pararme y buscar opciones, a no aceptar elegir entre las cosas que no me gustan, sino a crear y diseñar soluciones. Como dice en la Película **En Busca de la Felicidad** de Will Smith: Ese pequeño momento de mi vida, se llama Felicidad.

**Le doy gracias a Dios por haberme dado a mi papá, que me enseñó muchas cosas y muy valiosas.** Esas enseñanzas se las he pasado a mis hijos, dejándoles ese valor de pensar e ir más allá, a no aceptar las limitaciones, y a empoderarse de las situaciones para resolverlas, porque para eso son los problemas, para resolverlos, no para superarnos. **Greetings and Welcome to my Blog**. Today I want to talk to you about a life lesson that when I was a teenager made me change my perspective in the face of the different difficulties that arose. My dad always had a story for everything, something typical of older people, and he told me a story about a Dilemma, something that invited me to think and analyze deeply, and that at the time I failed as I should have failed to learn through a lesson . ###

One rainy afternoon, the company of my dad and his teachings

** I remember when I was a teenager, living in Caracas, I shared a moment with my dad, and he always liked to see the rain fall, feel the cold and the smell of humidity, always accompanied by a coffee, he enjoyed it a lot, even if it was a torrential one, just as he always liked to open the main door of the house and sit down to see all that gift of nature. I accompanied him with a blanket that he carried on my shoulders, it was a **Short Blanket** that I liked a lot.

A Challenge... Let's think

That afternoon my dad looked at me and said: If you're alone somewhere, and it's very, very cold and you only have to cover yourself with that small blanket that you have on your shoulders, what would you do to not die of cold: Do you cover your head or do you cover your feet? Think well, what suits you best. But you know that the blanket is very short and you cannot cover yourself completely, you must choose what would you do?

It seemed like a simple question, with two simple options, I couldn't fail, I remember I told him that it covered my feet, and he told me that my head would feel very cold and I needed it to stay awake, that I couldn't fall asleep. I also told him: I cover my head then. And my dad told me: With your feet unprotected, your legs would freeze, and the cold through your feet can paralyze you. I told him some other dumber options. But he told me that the blanket was too small and he couldn't do any other position to cover me completely, that it was impossible, so the two options were too difficult to execute, very uncomfortable and also made me helpless and would end up freezing me.

So... what do I do?

** I couldn't get the right answer, and the question was so silly that it frustrated me. **And my dad said:** I think you can do exercises to warm up your body. You could also go to a corner of the room and see if it's warmer there. But that's a trick question, I thought I could only have those two options. And my dad told me: Exactly ..! It is a trick question or a trick situation, and in life you will also find trick situations where you will believe that you have few options to solve a problem, where you will believe that you have to choose between something bad and something worse. **But you always have more options, if you think, if you see all the possibilities, if you just get up, drop that blanket and think about what else you can do.** He actually tried to manipulate my responses, making me feel like he was really limited to those two options: Cover my head or cover my feet. That is precisely the mental exercise he wanted me to do. And I felt so silly, but at the same time I fixed a **Mental Image** that would never leave me, that image **of me standing up, throwing the blanket on the floor and walking around seeing what other options I have to solve something.**

This simple story and reflection served me very quickly, since a short time later I graduated with a Bachelor of Humanities, in the old U.E. Gran Colombia, and my dream was to study Law at the Santa María University, in Urbina, I really wanted to, that university is beautiful and they have great prestige. But I was very disappointed when my parents told me that they couldn't afford it, we didn't have enough money to pay rent, all the family expenses and also that university.

So they told me to review the other options I had in public universities, but I didn't want to study elsewhere, **I didn't want to choose between two other universities that I didn't like**, I wanted it to be the **Universidad Santa María**. So one night we were talking about my other options and I stood up and told them: already have it, I'm going to work, and I'm going to pay for my degree, but I'm going to study law at Santa María University... My parents were shocked, they did not imagine that possibility, I was only 16 years old, I could not even work, but I already had that idea in mind. The next day I bought the newspaper and started reading job classifieds, and with pen in hand I made circles and wrote down telephone numbers.

My dad, seeing me so determined, did not want me to work anywhere, so the next day he spoke with his boss and got me an interview for a job at a very prestigious bank, which is located on Av. Andrés Bello in Caracas. , and I started working as Intern Ince in Insbanca and applied and hired by that Bank. And quickly I began to earn my money and I was able to enter the Santa María University, to study Law, I worked during the day and studied at night, it was very hard but I was very happy, not only did I study where I wanted, but I already knew that I could manage and solve problems, I already knew how to stop and look for options, not to accept choosing between things I don't like, but to create and design solutions. As it says in the movie **The Pursuit of Happyness** by Will Smith: That little moment in my life, it's called Happiness.

**I thank God for having given me my dad, who taught me many very valuable things.** I have passed these teachings on to my children, leaving them with the courage to think and go further, not to accept limitations , and to empower oneself in situations to solve them, because that is what problems are for, to solve them, not to overcome ourselves.
