Homeschooling is not just about the learning process held outside formal schools such as at home and the environment. In the process of learning and teaching activities homeschooling also employs several special methods so that this activity can be fun and can achieve the goals set at the beginning of the process, or before starting teaching and learning activities. Here I summarize some of the homeschooling methods that are widely applied.

Classical method

The classical homeschooling method applies several stages during the learning process, the early stages of students will learn how to learn, and they are expected to be able to remember many things. then the second stage, namely continuing what has been learned by discovering some facts from what they have learned.

The last stage is where students begin to find continuity between the facts of what they learned, and they've been able to articulate and provide a personal opinion of what has been learned.

The classic method can be used anytime and by anyone, but it is best used if:

  • Structured
  • Have a desire to evaluate student learning outcomes
  • Seeing the value of education that puts the priority on the written word,
both in terms of reading and writing.
  • Concentration on western classical literature as a tool for developing critical thinking e. * Students or children with an academic orientation.

The Charlotte Mason method.

Charlotte Mason is an educator from England which has its own method of providing education, especially homeschooling. The method he invented was also very well known and has been very widely used by homeschoolers around the world, including in Indonesia. The method is unique, what is the method like?

  • Relatively short study time
  • Students are required to make a narrative, both oral and written narrative. The narrative that is made depends on the age of the student
  • Have a test. Exams are held every 12 weeks
  • Studying pictures, music, and also studying maps.
  • Has many subjects

Computer-based homeschooling

This method may have been very popular today, this is inseparable from the increasingly advanced and rapid technological developments. And almost all people understand the use of technology, especially young people.

In computer methods, The most important tools are the DVD and CD as a means of storing study material. Besides that, it can also be done online using a PC device. The application of computer-based homeschooling has major benefits that are, students can quickly understand the use of technology in a positive way.

Those are three homeschooling methods that in my opinion are worthy of being applied by homeschoolers. In addition to the three methods above, there are also other methods, namely the traditional school-based method, homeschooling with electronic methods, and also independent homeschooling methods or independent learning. All methods have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is better to choose a learning method that suits your goals.
