Several Steps to Optimize Game-Based Learning Models

SOURCE

Currently, the development of human civilization continues to progress. This also applies to the development of science and technology which is also growing rapidly every year. In addition, technological developments are also influential or this also applies to the world of education. One example is that there are many learning models that we can apply to educate students.

One of the learning models that I want to review on this occasion is the game-based learning model. Of course this is very interesting, and we can apply it to children from an early age so that they are stimulated to study harder. So how do you apply game-based learning methods? Here's the review.

Definition of game-based learning model.

Game-based learning model is a learning model which in its application involves games. The games used can be anything, whether traditional games, or technology-based or digital games. The game is specifically designed to help the student learning process.

Basically, this model is specifically designed to be able to balance the material delivered by the teacher by playing. The game or model application in this method has the aim of making students able to improve their imagination, thinking, and other abilities.

The steps for implementing the game-based learning model.

There are several stages to be able to apply the game-based learning model, this model cannot be done spontaneously, here are the stages.

  • Material preparation
Preparation, yes, all things need preparation as well as game-based learning models. The teacher must prepare the material, how to deliver the material and others.

  • Start learning with an interesting narrative.
Before entering the main objective, it is better for you to start with the material or the learning process with an interesting narrative. Of course the narrative is related to the material we have prepared earlier. Its purpose is to burn students' enthusiasm in participating in the learning process.

  • Play session.
This is the session you've been waiting for. In this session the teacher will act as a guide, His duties include observing, intervene and keep the session.

Observation is to observe who already understands, who is still confused about how to play.

Intervention means that the teacher will intervene to help students who do not understand.

while guarding the session aims so that all students can play calmly and pleasantly.

  • Closing discussion
As soon as the playing session is over, don't really close the learning process. but create an open discussion session. Because we as teachers have made observations, we might be able to ask some students, “why did you do this/that action?”, “why did you throw/take this card and not that one?” Here, the teacher can explore the children's way of thinking about every action that students take while playing.

  • Session evaluation
Once steps 1 to 4 have been carried out, the last step is to evaluate. Either self-evaluation in terms of giving narration to delivering material, or evaluating all game-based learning sessions. the teacher must write down all the things that are already good to be maintained in the next session and then improve and fix what is not optimal.

Those are some steps that we can do when we want, are, and after doing game-based learning methods. What we need to know is, we have to look at the needs of students, so the game that we will implement is better based on the needs of students. It is hoped that the application of game-based learning models can stimulate student motivation, children, to learn.
