As educators, we can not arbitrarily award our students certificates of proficiency after their studies without having being influenced by a sort of prejudice. Therefore, to avoid prejudice we often make use of achievement test, which are designed to measure performance after a course of study or instruction in a particular Field.
However, it should not be assumed that it is in the classrooms alone that we make use of this type of test as we also use them to measure the results of vocational training and experience in many types of job. To be explicit and avoid confusion, we give achievement tests, different nomenclature in different fields. The type we use in schools and in the academic sphere is often called paper-pencil achievement tests. The important fact about this tests is that it is written form and it involves the use of language or graphic symbols. Performance test is another type of instruction used and it involve the actual display of skill after it has been learnt. We also use product evaluation, which is assessing the product of someone who has just completed a course of training. But as already stated, only one type of these test is popular in the academic world while the other are of value in non-academic world.
