Hello CineTV Community, Welcome to My Post Nº 33!
Horror movies are not my forte, since I was a child I have stayed away from that kind of plot, but one way or another I always end up watching one or another movie of this genre; most of them scare me despite being movies that are mostly pretty bad or at least the ones I've seen, however, there are some others where the story is gripping and leaves you with a feeling of pure terror inside your body and it's not because of the scares that the movie can generate, but because of the story behind the whole film and this one in particular left me with a feeling of discomfort because of how weird and good the story was.
Annie decides to move with her family to her mother's house after her mother passed away, when they finally think they can settle down and create new memories in this place, they begin to discover secrets of their ancestors and an evil presence begins to disturb the family, but it all falls on Charlie who begins to have a strange behavior and as the days go by these secrets become much more sinister.
Hereditary is a horror and drama movie that was released in 2018, it was directed by Ari Aster who in turn was the creator of the script; Ari was also the director of the movie Midsommar that was released in 2019 and both movies have that touch of psychological terror that distinguishes this director. Hereditary has a duration of 2 h 7 m and today you can find it on Netflix, its main cast consists of Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Gabriel Byrne and Milly Shapiro.
I saw this movie twice, the first time I didn't understand it because I wasn't paying real attention to it, so I got lost many times in the story, the second time I managed to understand a little more, but in the same way I was left with many questions in my head, but honestly this point did not make me uncomfortable, because I feel that those questions did not have an answer as such.
Its story is interesting and catches you from the first moment and leaves you in constant tension, I was really expecting some scares that you are used to in horror movies, but surprisingly this does not happen in this movie, what really gives terror is the suffering of the characters and how the plot develops to have that point that generates you a mental fear that lasts for many days is simply incredible and that makes it different from other movies of this genre.
The characters were the highlight of the film, each of them had an incredible development and several of them have some heartbreaking scenes that leave you with the hairs on end, I think that among all, the performance of Toni Collette (Annie) is one of the best I've seen in showing that point of heartbreaking pain when losing someone, each of them manage to convey their feelings and that is something that is appreciated, I really liked each of them and each one contributed what was necessary to make this movie something incredible.
Despite not liking horror movies, Hereditary managed to leave me satisfied. I really liked that it was not the typical film that generates fear due to ghosts, this goes much further and manages to show a different story that ends up liking, plus the performances, the setting and the music manages to generate that atmosphere of true terror that leaves the tension to a thousand, for these reasons I recommend it, since it is worth taking the time to see it. My Final Rating is.
