Who's in for some laughter or who's a fan of comedic actress Kat Dennings or you don't mind a female centered cast? If you say yes to at least one of those, then is the comedy streaming television series Dollface definitely recommended. The show that was created by Jordan Weiss, also stars Brenda Song and Shay Mitchell as the main cast and premiered on Hulu in November 2019. It got picked up for a second season.
The story starts with Jules (Dennings) being dumped out of the blue by her boyfriend Jeremy, which turns her life upside down, because everything that she's been doing the last couple of years revolved around him: parties, social gatherings and circles. Realizing that she needs to pick her life without a boyfriend up again, she thinks of reconnecting with her old friends before she knew Jeremy. After the many years that they've drifted apart, will she be able to get back into the good graces of her friends and what does she need to do to get back into their lives?
I picked this comedy series as a must watch for myself, after seeing the online trailer, because of the cast (Dennings and Song) being known for hitting those comedic punchlines. I was even surprised by Mitchells performance in a comedy series, as I know her from a more dramatic centered television series. Although Dollface at times overemphasizes the girlpower trope, it doesn't get annoying. I think that's because of the dramatic moments being so meticulously intertwined with the funny moments. What definitely also help are Dennings' sarcasm, Song acing the overbearing and controlling friend and Mitchells performance of the larger than life character.
There's much more that I want to share, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen this tv-series yet. Here's the trailer and let me know what you think 🤓:
