Spoiler Alert

So, you've probably seen the movie The Sixth Sense already – it's been a popular movie for several years – but if not, I'll spoil it for you here.

Trust me; it's a great movie. Just watch the film first and read this later. If it wasn't that great, I wouldn't have tried to chase away readers from my post!

This movie amazingly tells a story about a child named Cole Sear (played by Haley Joel Osment) who sees dead people. He sees them everywhere, in school, in his home, on roads! This is really frightening for a kid I guess! Well, the kid is traumatized by this, and he consults a psychiatrist Dr. Malcom (played by Bruce Willis) tries to help the kid. Having said that, Bruce Willis seems to be devoted to this patient for certain reasons. He believes that this might help to right a wrong he did in the past.

The film is directed by M. Night Shyamalan who is renowned for giving out the unexpected twist at the end of his films. And he didn't fail this time too!

This is an extraordinary film which is brilliantly directed and ingenious script. Every shot and every aspect of the movie is out of the ordinary. Shyamalan really did an amazing job. You might watch the trailer and think that this is a horror movie for teenagers with Bruce Willis in it, but my friend it is not. It is so mature that it portrays the social effect like marriage, faith, humanity, love can affect people and haunt people/ghosts for life.

The film is not just a typical horror movie. My word how deep the movie is! But it won't even make you feel like you are watching a horror movie at all! It has genres like drama, thriller and some sad moments too. It will touch your heart with an emotional roller coaster.

I cannot talk about the movie without passing Haley Joel Osment enough! He played his role so significantly! He even got an Oscar nomination for this. Yes, you would see many parodies about this movie, but a child actor performing in such a show is beyond description.

I loved this movie because of director Shyamalan's realistic way of showing it. He proved his point in such a smart way that we cannot find any loopholes in it! Even after the end credits started rolling, my mind was running through all those scenes and dialogues.

I really loved the way where he implied that there is a touch of death in a scene. He used the color red for it. The sweater of the kid, the woman who is poisoning the daughter, standing next to red roses, red stairs, doorknob, and the red balloon!

Now to talk about Bruce Willis, he was magnificent throughout the film. He is a superstar. It was surprising that how Shyamalan got him to do this movie. Because Shyamalan was not any noteworthy director and Bruce Willis has done some remarkable films like Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, etc. Shyamalan wrote the script specifically for him. And Bruce Willis just nailed it. Shyamalan revealed that Bruce Willis was very supportive during the movie.

Toni Collette always plays her role fine. But in this movie, she went the extra mile. She was deep into her character. The pain she went through, a helpless mother not being able to do anything for her beloved child, really touched me! When the kid Cole first revealed that he can see dead people she didn't believe it. But when in the traffic he mentioned about his grandmother....oh the tears!! That was a heck of a scene!

If we want to talk about the camera work, when the famous scene comes, " I see dead people"..... The camera work is so remarkable that you will be truly amazed!

He maintained the direction keeping in mind what the film is actually about...regret, sorrow, pain, remorse, sorrow. Things that are sad, deep, and emotional. Not just a typical horror movie with gore visuals and sound effects, rather the actual horror we fear!

BIG SPOILER!

The audience will definitely be surprised in the end with a big revelation! Our 'psychiatrist' turns out to be one of those ghosts that Cole sees all around him. This might be the most brilliant twist in film history!

After when the big secret is revealed you will see that the director took his game to the next level. Not only that, when it is revealed you yourself will nod in agreement. And if you rewatch it, you will understand that everything in the movie made sense.

Bruce Willis being dead the whole time is a remarkable factor of the film. Every little detail about that fact was perfect. Cole sees dead people and they don't know they are dead! And then you will realize how great the movie is!

Every detail will make you realize that Bruce Willis was dead the whole time. See the image above, at first, it will seem that Toni Collette and Bruce Willis are waiting together for the kid COle. But it was Cole's mother waiting alone. There are no loopholes. The directing and writing are top-notch! Shyamalan the mastermind behind this, really deserves a warm round of applause.

The movie is rated 8.1/10 in IMDB. In Rotten Tomatoes it got an audience score of 90%

The movie has a PG-13 rating, but I would say that the horror in this movie is way more than R-rated!

The movie was a huge success! The Sixth Sense’s worldwide gross income was around $672,806,292. It was the highest-grossing horror movie till IT(2017) claimed the first position. But if I want to evaluate the value of money in 1999 and 2017, I would say it has outpassed IT by miles.

The Sixth Sense got nominated for six Academy Awards and four British Academy Film Awards, but unfortunately won nothing! The film was nominated for 3 people choice award and won all!

A mere descriptive review will not be able to uphold the true beauty and experience the movie can provide. Even after almost 22 years, the movie will still give you goosebumps! I would highly recommend you to watch this amazing movie.

This was my second entry for the Best of Horror Challenge. This time the topic was horror movies from the 90s. I am looking forward to the other entries and the upcoming segment of the show.
