Only Murders in the Building is a comedy series that follows three strangers who share a common obsession: crime. They are fans of a popular true crime podcast.

Suddenly a chilling murder occurs in an Upper West Side apartment, so these three people employ their knowledge of crime to solve the crime. To do so, they begin recording a podcast to document the case where they unravel the building's complex secrets from years before.

Steve Martin's character, Charles, is a decadent, reclusive actor who randomly recites old lines from when he played a detective on a TV series. Oliver, Martin Short, is a bumbling, debt-ridden and very unlucky Broadway theater director, Selena Gomez is Mabel, a funny, stylish and slightly depressed millennial.

As they record the podcast they begin to document the case where they unravel the building's complex secrets that go back years. But they tell lies to each other. It doesn't take this trio in danger long to realize that a killer could be living among them so they must hurry to decipher the clues before it's too late.

During the investigation, they even manage to solve a murder from the past that touches Mabel very closely, but has nothing to do with the murder they are investigating.

Once the secret identity of the murderer is revealed, he justifies himself and we learn his motives.

Steve Martin created the series with John Hoffman and it has received well-deserved popular acclaim thanks to its approach that brings crime series back to the small screen with a fun and original twist. The episodes are approximately half an hour long.

It is a comedy series that, in addition to making people laugh, tries to delve deeper into its protagonists by means of an unexpected freedom. It even occasionally even allows itself the luxury of playing at being somewhat surreal.

The fiction is a whodunnit that portrays the world of Internet 'true crime' podcasts as a comedy.

Apart from solving the murder, in the series we get to know the microcosm formed by the residents of the Arconia Building. In fact, each episode features a different narrator who teaches us the story from his or her point of view. In this comedy many times the development of its main characters, and their secrets are much more attractive to unveil than the identity of the murderer.

In the end, another murder happens in the Arconia Building, the victim being the director of the Homeowners Association, which is further investigated in the second season.

In its second season, the three main characters are suspects in this new homicide, and must escape the traps and false leads that are continually laid for them.

It nostalgically conveys how New York was and past and what it is now, here the series manages to capture the essence of the city.

The humor in the series is wild, with constant plot twists, but in this second season, the case is solved, the protagonist trio gathers their trusted neighbors and even the members of the podcast of their competition for a live broadcast meeting in which the identity of the murderer will be clarified in a final chapter totally crazy and full of surprises.

One year later, Charles, Oliver and Mabel are reunited on the opening night of Oliver's play. At the beginning of the show, Ben Glenroy, co-star of the play with Charles, collapses, coughs blood and dies on stage. Charles and Oliver run to him, but it is too late and Mabel realizes that there is a new murder to solve.

The supporting cast includes Cara Delevingne, Adina Verson, Julian Cihi, Tina Fey, Michael Cyril Creighton, Jane Lynch, Christine Ko, Zoe Colletti, James Caverly, Ryan Broussard, Amy Schumer, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Jackie Hoffman, Jayne Houdyshell, Michael Rapaport, Teddy Coluca, Shirley MacLaine, Sting and Paul Rudd.

It is a highly recommended series for comedy lovers and makes for a great time, because the series is funny, emotional and very enjoyable. With short episodes, very funny moments and touches on issues of how we relate and how society forces us to relate to each other. An excellent combination of mysteries and laughs.

Two great comedy actors like Steve Martin and Martin Short play funny and eccentric characters, on the other hand, Selena Gomez more than does her job. The supporting cast provides excellent support to the main cast.
