Cinetvcontest: Favorite Game Movie - Lara Croft The Tomb Raider (2001)

Wikipedia

If you're an ardent movie or video games follower or lover, you'll agree with me that there have been numerous attempts by movie makers to bring the world of video games to the big screen, the cinemas. Unfortunately, to me the majority of these efforts have been just mediocre at best. Except for a few like "Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat, Warcraft, Sonic the hedgehog" and my choice of today's prompt which you can join here is "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", which is a great exception and it's based on the well-known video game franchise of the same name. Yeah I recall I grew up playing the game and Mortal Kombat too

Okay, I believe It's safe to assume that, as someone who enjoyed playing various retro video games earlier in my life, I've played plenty of Tomb Raider games throughout the years. And I've had my fair share of the franchise. Locked with her signature ponytail, tank top, and shorts, Lara Croft immediately sprung and established herself as one movie icon for her game lovers, which dates back to the mid-1990s. Players were now transported on a global scale of the make believe world and felt her exploits not as a game character now but as a movie character as she fought legendary foes and went in search of hidden wealth.

Plot
The 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider tells of the exploits of a rich and well-off plus extremely talented adventurer who traversed the globe in pursuit of priceless antiquities. Lara began her quest or search for the Triangle of Light after learning that a cult group, "The Illuminati", wants to rule the globe, if they're able to lay their hands on it.

The intention of "The Illuminati" was to use the Triangle of Light to achieve absolute power since it has the ability to manipulate time and space and hence they can control the world. So Lara races against the clock as she overcomes numerous challenges and foes all in her quest to recover the item before it falls into the wrong hands.

During her adventure, she joined forces with Bryce, a tech-savvy hacker, and Alex West, a competition in the adventure and both ended up being both allies and somehow her love interest.

Throughout the movie Lara and her allies make their way past lethal traps and eerie ruins in their quest and search of the Triangle of Light.

The beautiful thing about the movie's plot is that it's jam-packed with action, pure adventure, and inbuilt suspense. Although at some point it felt slow paced and overly long. Maybe because they were trying to cramp some scenes into the movie, but generally it's a great movie.

I was also impressed to see that the director was faithful to the Lara croft character just as in the game. Strong, clever, and resourceful, also she had this dry sense of humor that added to her likeability. And Of course, the recognizable attire, the signature ponytail, the tank top, and shorts. It was delightful to see Jolie wear it on the big screen and she did it with poise and style.

My opinions on the film
The movie's honesty to the video game is one of the things I liked most about it. Throughout the entire movie, you get this game-like feel to it. Right from the opening scene in the Cambodian temple, down to the climactic fight with the cult Illuminati.

Also I think the choice for the cast was perfect too as Angelina Jolie was the ideal choice to portray Lara Croft. I mean she portrayed everything in her style and actions in the movie. Not forgetting the action scenes, the set pieces were spectacular too. Infact Angelina created the perfect character that was both true to the game and the original movie. She made Lara Croft without a doubt my favorite in the film.

Truly, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) is one excellent example of a video game movie that was done well. It stays true to its inspiration (the game) . I was really pumped as a fan to watch one of my favorite game characters come to life. So to you all movie and game lovers, I strongly suggest you go watch Lara Croft: Tomb Raider if you have not, because you'll definitely be back with thanksgiving.

Gracias.
