There's something about movies and tv shows based on social media —they are relevant, eye-opening and totally relatable! These movies tend to focus on the vices that plague our society as a result of the influence of social media like cyber-bullying, body shaming, misinformation, self-hate etc.

I have watched some social media themed movies such as The Social Network (2010), Unfriended (2004) and found them illuminating. But I want to write about one recent tv show by Netflix about the influence of Instagram which I find very amusing, entertaining and enjoyable — Emily In Paris (2020).

I just discovered this tv show recently and wondered how I missed it before. It's an American comedy drama TV show created by Darren Star about a young lady, Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins), a social media marketer who moves to Paris to work with Savoir, a French marketing firm. The show focuses on Emily's life in Paris and how she handles everything that a stranger may face in the love city. On her arrival, she changes her Instagram handle to @emilyinparis and influences her followers through it.

One thing about this show is that it is enjoyable, if you are searching for something fun to watch. The show is entertaining while focused on travel, fashion, comedy, feminism, and of course, romance. The cinematography is amazing. Viewers can see such beautiful locations of Paris which makes someone like me daydream of the day I will visit Paris!

One thing I noticed though is the show relayed some bits of misinformation about the people and culture. Not everything displayed on the show is true, especially for people who look forward to visiting Paris some day. This show is more like a fantasy and not the reality of Paris and her people.

This show has gone on for two seasons, ten episodes each and there is a third season in the works. Each episode is about 25 to 30 minutes long, so you can binge-watch the entire two seasons in a day.

Another thing the creator did right is the great cast. I love movies by the young, lovely Lily Collins. I have always fancied speaking French and watching these actors speak it, watching all the beautiful scenes of Paris, together with the comedy, I'll say the show is a stress reliever!

Are you looking for something charming, relaxing and exciting to watch? I'll recommend binge-watching this show. You will love it.
