Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros monjes del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, existen películas que tuvieron un auge de popularidad estando en boca de todos antes y durante su estreno, a veces incluso trasciende después de haber sido estrenada, el filme “The Nun” es un buen caso debido a que recuerdo el revuelo que se armo sobre ella cuando recien había salido, es por ello que hoy nos toca encarar a un poderoso demonio disfrazado de alguien santo. Sin más que agregar prepárense para expulsar demonios pues estamos por comenzar.

Es un filme de terror y suspenso, la historia se desarrolla en un convento en Rumania al que siempre se le ha acusado de estar maldito producto de la cantidad de sucesos extraños y paranormales que suceden dentro de sus muros, todo da un giro fatal cuando consiguen a una de las monjas que hacían vida aquí colgada en todo el frente de la puerta de entrada sin ninguna clase de explicación, es producto de todas estas eventualidades que el vaticano no puede seguir ignorando el elefante en la habitación por lo que deciden enviar a un sacerdote y a una novicia a averiguar el origen de todas estas calamidades en terreno sacrosanto.

The soundtrack is quite pleasant because it manages to convey that feeling of uneasiness to the viewer, in addition, I find it wonderful that it adds various strange sounds, grunts and others in the middle of the musical tracks to generate even more expectations to the different moments already tense in themselves.
La banda sonora es bastante agradable debido a que logra transmitir esa sensación de intranquilidad al espectador, además, me parece maravilloso que añada diversos sonidos extraños, gruñidos y demás en mitad de las pistas musicales para generar aún más expectativas a los diferentes momentos ya tensos de por sí.
The world-building gives a bad vibe from the start, absolutely all the context is used to support the premise, having a fantastic setting, not only because it uses shadows to generate intrigue but because it knows how to present a good extremely depressing, desolate and intriguing scenery that makes the message clear that the scene where the events take place is not the holiest place in the world. The above is reinforced by the small town that has a reduced presence but manages to increase the idea that tries to consolidate the convent in itself.
La construcción de mundo da un mal rollo desde el vamos, absolutamente todo el contexto es empleado para apoyar la premisa teniendo una ambientación fantástica, no solo por el hecho de que usa las sombras para generar intriga sino por el hecho de que sabe plantear una buena escenografía sumamente deprimente, desolada e intrigante que deja claro el mensaje de que el escenario donde se desarrollan los acontecimientos no es el sitio más santo del mundo. Lo anterior se refuerza con el pequeño pueblo que tiene una presencia reducida pero logra acrecentar la idea que intenta consolidar el convento en sí mismo.
This is the first point where the film begins to stumble, the premise is simply wonderful and is based on corrupting something pure to generate impact, this on paper is perfect but in execution not so much because it adds last minute elements that fail to be incorporated in a good way which ends up resulting in an unsatisfactory resolution that feels out of the sleeve. The scenes of suspense and terror are inconsistent because there are moments when it does very well to the point of having the viewer on the edge of the seat product of tension, however there are other moments that are very crude and direct that do not generate expectations, tension or anything that resembles it. The duration is perfect because it focuses a lot on solving the enigma as well as the presence of spirits that sow the doubt of not knowing who is truly real, that is why the interest of the audience remains captured at all times, the above makes it possible to forgive their debacles in some scenes of terror.
Este es el primer punto en donde el filme comienza a tropezarse, la premisa es sencillamente maravillosa y se sustenta en corromper algo puro para generar impacto, esto en papel es perfecto pero en ejecución no tanto debido a que añade elementos de último minuto que no logran incorporarse de buena forma lo que termina derivando en una resolución insatisfactoria que se siente sacada de la manga. Las escenas de suspensos y terror son inconsistentes debido a que hay momentos en que lo hace muy bien al punto de tener al espectador al filo del asiento producto de la tensión, no obstante hay otros momentos que son muy burdos y directos que no generan expectativas, tensión ni nada que se le asemeje. La duración es perfecta debido a que se enfoca mucho en resolver el enigma así como la presencia de espíritus que siembran la duda de no saber quién es verdaderamente real, es por ello que el interés de la audiencia se mantiene capturado en todo momento, lo anterior hace que se puedan perdonar medianamente sus debacles en algunas escenas de terror.

Para romper la costumbre hablaré primero del villano, es sencillamente alucinante la forma en que lo presentan debido a que desde el vamos deja bien claro sus poderes y la imponente presencia que maneja, se me ocurren pocas formas de haberlo introducido mejor, el problema con este es que al hacerlo tan imponente y capaz solo hace que la forma en la que es derrotado se sienta como un insulto a todo lo que se hizo bien con este previamente. Los protagonistas no son interesantes debido a que en general carecen de una caracterización medianamente decente, el sacerdote es el típico que tuvo un exorcismo fallido y ese fracaso lo persigue haciéndolo sumamente genérico, la novicia no tiene nada especial hasta que de repente es la clave de todo solo porque si, y, el francés no tiene nada que lo haga destacar y se siente como un personaje de relleno en la mayoría de los casos.
The Nun is a curious case because it has moments in which it is simply a rock star with its different musical accompaniments and fantastic sound effects seasoned with an amazing atmosphere, the above makes its poor and convenient narrative hand in hand with its simpleton characters kill all the good things I manage to build. The Nun es un caso curioso debido a que tiene momentos en los que es sencillamente una estrella de rock con sus diferentes acompañamientos musicales y efectos de sonido fantásticos sazonados con una ambientación alucinante, lo anterior hace que su narrativa pobre y conveniente de la mano con sus personajes simplones asesinen todo lo bueno que logro construir. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3 estrellas de 7, si bien su trama es pobre la forma que tiene de generar ambientes de tensión es lo suficientemente buena como para que recomiende verla por lo menos una vez.
