Desperate lies

Hey there! So, I just had the most amazing weekend binge-watching this show called "Desperate Lies," and I couldn't wait to share it with you. It's a Brazilian television drama series, created by Ângela Chaves and premiered on Netflix on July 5, 2024, with 17 episodes, and let me tell you, it's a rollercoaster of emotions.

I was instantly intrigued when I saw the title on the movie website. I decided to see what it was all about, and I ended up getting hooked from the first episode to the 17th episode of the show.

The story revolves around Liana, an occupational therapist, who, after dreaming of becoming a mother for so long, ends up pregnant with twins due to a rare birth condition called superfecundation. The catch? She's pregnant with twins from two different men - her cheating husband and a guy who assaulted her.

Filled with shame and grief, Liana and her husband choose to keep the incident a secret. The series delves into the impact of these secrets and lies on Laina's marriage, family, and her journey to keep everything together. Will they be able to keep such a big secret? And for how long can they succeed?

The lead actress, Liana, portrayed her role so convincingly that I felt deeply invested in her story. Her struggles felt so real, and I found her truly inspiring. The show also features great supporting characters like Sílvia, who is the type of supportive sister-in-law we all need in our lives. Sílvia will do everything in her power to make sure Liana and her family are well cared for.

I was completely absorbed in the storyline and all the family dramas as they unfolded. While I was entertained throughout the show, it also prompted me to pause and reflect on life itself.

Oh, and there's this villain, Oscàr, who you'll love to hate, I got such a satisfaction feeling when he got what came his way at the end of all his atrocities.

You'll have to watch it yourself to see how it all unfolds but believe me, it's so worth it.

I appreciate that the show is short, with just 17 episodes. I don't have to wait for months or years to find out what happens next. Some viewers have criticized this, but I'm fine with it. There are numbers of times I long for long shows, but this seems to just a perfect one for me.
I have been very interested in family drama shows lately and this right here ticks all the boxes for the things I love to see in a show.

Overall, the show is a captivating one-season series that left me wanting more. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for something engaging yet reflective. I give it an 8/10! Give it a watch and let me know what you think!
