CineTV Contest #24 | | Prince Of Persia

It is said some lives are linked across time, connected by ancient calling that echoes through the ages. Destiny

When I saw the movie genre for this week, I thought about one mystical movie that thrilled me. Although it was long I saw it, around 2011 as the movie was released in 2010. I had to see it again before writing this review. It felt like it was the first time all over again, and that’s no mystery only genuine admiration for the amazing concept and storyline that this movie followed. So my favourite mystery movie is “Prince Of Persia- Sands of Time”.

I know a lot of sci-fi talk about time travel and all the other science jargon that follows it but it just ends with the viewer fantasizing about the concept of time travel. On the other hand, when mystery and culture is the defining factor the concept of time travel seems more relatable. It brings to bear the mystery yet to be debunked about the concept of time travel which in my opinion is far better than the fantasy sci-fi time travel concepts portray.

I have always loved mystical devices, especially relics and that was what I loved about Prince of Persia. The whole mystery is built around the Persian empire which I think holds more mysteries than is being portrayed was just thrilling to watch. The honeycomb in this movie is the blade of Alamut which was stolen or should I say collected during battle. Now, the mystery part, when the sands of time are placed in this blade it becomes a short time travel device.

So the actress to look out for here is Gemma Arterton, Her role as Tamina was so good from the fierce queen to an adventurer. She just played every scene have this soft touch even as Dastan played by Jake Gyllenhaal was the protagonist and did most of the action scenes. Gemma was the soul of the movie and the voice that brings out the mystery behind this movie.

The scenes that made me think of this movie when I saw the mystery heading were that of Dastan coming back from the immediate future to stop the outright capture of Alamut seeing that he just conquered the city. Then he humiliated his uncle Nizam who wanted to kill him seeing that he had discovered his plot for the throne. The best was of course how Dastan related well with the Princess of Alamut Tamina and understood her well he had to as he had spent a lot of time with her and knew what she was like.

Mystery as you can see is hard to explain as almost every movie has a dent of mystery attached to it. I think it is what brings out the uniqueness of every movie. It is also that defining factor that intrigues the viewers to continue till the end and even crave for more.
