This contest is about the romantic movies that we have liked the most. The truth is that I am not very assiduous to this genre so I don't have a long list, however, a film that has touched my heart is Pride and Prejudice.
Este concurso es sobre las películas románticas que más nos hayan gustado. La verdad no soy muy asidua a este género por lo que no tengo una larga lista, sin embargo, un film que me ha tocado es Orgullo y Prejuicio.
Based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austin (one of my favorite writers) the film tells us the love affairs of Elizabeth and her sisters whose mother wants to see them married no matter what, because at that time, the goal of every woman was to safeguard her future in a marriage, especially if the prospect was wealthy. Elizabeth thinks very differently, she doesn't eliminate the idea of getting married someday, but she doesn't think that should be her priority, she prefers to enjoy her youth and the little things that life offers her, something that turns her mother upside down, who believes that the girl thinks like a man.
Basada en la novela homónima de Jane Austin (una de mis escritoras preferidas) la película nos relata las aventuras amorosas de Elizabeth y sus hermanas ,cuya madre quiere verlas casadas a como de lugar dado a que en aquella época, la meta de toda mujer era resguardar su futuro en un matrimonio, más aún si el prospecto era adinerado. Elizabeth piensa muy diferente, no elimina la idea de casarse algún día, pero no lo tiene como prioridad, ella prefiere disfrutar su juventud y las pequeñas cosas que la vida le ofrece, cosa que pone de cabezas a su madre que cree que la muchacha piensa igual que un hombre.
It is at a ball (a perfect occasion for courtship among the young people of the time) where Jane (the older sister) and Elizabeth meet Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley. While for Jane and Bingley it's love at first sight, for Elizabeth and Darcy it is a moment of discomfort and tension since Fitzwilliam Darcy is an elitist, arrogant and above all prejudiced man while Elizabeth, despite her many qualities, she also has a rather big defect: she is very proud and the clash of these two personalities (the main protagonists) honor the name of the film and the book: Pride and Prejudice.
Es en un baile (ocasión perfecta para armar noviazgos entre los jóvenes de la época) donde Jane (la hermana mayor) y Elizabeth conocen a los señores Darcy y Bingley. Mientras que para Jane y Bingley es amor a primera vista, para Elizabeth y Darcy es un momento de incomodidad y tensión ya que Fitzwilliam Darcy es un hombre elitista, arrogante y sobre todo prejuicioso mientras que Elizabeth, pese a muchas cualidades que tiene, también posee un defecto bastante grande: es muy orgullosa y el choque de estás dos personalidades (los protagonistas principales) hacen el honor al nombre del film y la obra: Orgullo y Prejuicio.
One of the reasons why I love this movie is because it's a very good adaptation of the book and that obviously makes us fans of the book very happy. The choice of actors was spectacular and especially the performances of Keira knightley and Matthew Macfadyen are very very good.
Una de las razones por las que amo esta película es porque es una muy buena adaptación de la obra y eso genera que obviamente se gane a los amantes del libro. La elección de los actores fue espectacular y sobre todo las actuaciones de Keira knightley y Matthew Macfadyen, son muy muy buenas.
The soundtrack fits the movie like a glove, it's refreshing, soft and romantic. Just by listening to the original piece you know that one of the best love stories will begin.
La banda sonora le va como anillo al dedo a la película, es refrescante, suave y romántica. Solo con oír la pieza original ya sabes que empezará una de las mejores historias de amor.
And you may wonder, how is it possible that two characters so different manage to love each other? Have you heard that from love to hate there is only one step? This case is the opposite, because that is what Jane Austin achieves with her perfect character development. Let's say that after very important events in the lives of both characters, they evolve, understand and learn that they must eliminate pride and prejudice from their lives if they want to be able to love and be loved by the other.
Y se preguntarán ¿Cómo es posible que dos personajes tan diferentes logren amarse? ¿Han oído que del amor al odio solo hay un paso? Este caso es lo contrario pues es lo que logra Jane Austin con su perfecto desarrollo de personajes. Digamos que luego de eventos de mucha importancia en la vida de ambos personajes, evolucionan, entienden y aprenden que deben eliminar el orgullo y el prejuicio de sus vidas si quieren poder amar y dejarse amar por el otro.
There is one scene in particular that I think is everyone's favorite, it's when Darcy puts aside his arrogance and declares his feelings to Elizabeth, however he still possesses prejudice and says some things that anger the girl who despite the feelings she has for him, makes herself respected and gives him a resounding refusal explaining the reasons (the prejudice he possesses) and also defends his family whom he had inadvertently insulted by being prejudiced. It's a touching scene but at the same time gratifying and frustrating, it's a scene with bitter sweet touches as we as viewers want them to be together but we understand Elizabeth's reasons for the rejection. I leave you with the scene below:
Hay una escena en particular que creo que es la preferida de todo el mundo y es cuando Darcy deja a un lado su arrogancia y le declara sus sentimientos a Elizabeth, sin embargo aún posee prejuicio y dice algunas cosas que enojan a la muchacha que pese a los sentimientos que tiene por él, se hace respetar y le da una rotunda negativa explicándole los motivos (el prejuicio que él posee) y además defiende a su familia a la que él sin darse cuenta había insultado siendo prejuicioso. Es una escena conmovedora pero a la vez gratificante y frustrante, es una escena con toques amargos y dulces ya que como espectadores queremos que estén juntos pero entendemos las razones de Elizabeth para el rechazo. Les dejo la escena a continuación:

Sin embargo como ya dije, al final reina el amor que ambos sienten, dejando de lado sus diferencias y defectos además de emendar los errores cometidos, teniendo por fin el resultado que desde un principio merecían y que debido a ellos mismos no pudieron obtener de inmediato.

I think that what is interesting in this type of stories lies in its time, since the choice of the best words was prioritized, and courtship was something important and went hand in hand with chivalry and courtesy, as well as poetry and oratory to know how to correctly refer to a lady. A lot of embellishments were used when speaking to make more impact and a good impression on the girls. It is something that although it may seem incredible, nowadays most of us women love it, it doesn't matter if this way of speaking is used now or not, because despite the decades and centuries, it never lost its charm. It is not the same to say "You are very beautiful" to "You possess a matchless beauty capable of filling a dark room with your light".
Creo que lo interesante y atrapante de este tipo de relatos radica en su época, ya que se priorizaba la elección de las mejores palabras, y el cortejo era algo importante e iba de la mano de la caballerosidad y la cortesía, además de la poesía y la oratoria para saber cómo referirse correctamente a una dama. Se utilizaban muchos adornos a la hora de hablar para causar más impacto y una buena impresión a las chicas. Es algo que aunque parezca increíble, hoy en día a la mayoría de las mujeres nos encanta, no importa si esta forma de hablar se usa ahora o no, porque a pesar de las décadas y los siglos, nunca perdió su encanto. No es lo mismo decir "Eres muy guapa" a "Usted posee una belleza sin igual capaz de llenar con su luz una habitación en penumbras"
