vor ein paar Wochen hatte ich euch das neue Gehege für unsere Meerschweinchen gezeigt, dass ich selber in unserem Garten gebaut habe.

Was damals noch nicht fertig war, war eine isolierte Schutzbox wo sich die Meerschweinchen auch bei kaltem Wetter zurückziehen können.

What wasn't finished at the time was an insulated protective box where the guinea pigs can retreat even in cold weather.
Diese Box habe ich vor ein paar Wochen/Monaten bereits fertig gestellt und angebracht. Von dem Bau der Box hatte ich auch reichlich Fotos gemacht aber leider hatte mein Smartphone einen Schaden am Mainboard und ich hatte die Fotos noch nicht heruntergeladen (shit happens).
I finished and installed this box a few weeks/months ago. I had also taken plenty of photos of the construction of the box but unfortunately my smartphone had damage to the mainboard and I hadn't downloaded the photos yet (shit happens).
Wie man auf dem zweiten Bild erkennen kann, wird die Box auch gut angenommen. Mindestens einmal in der Woche muss der Einstreu komplett gewechselt werden.
Die Box besteht aus einem Holzgerüst mit einer allseitigen Dämmung von ca. 50 mm. Zur Belüftung habe ich ein paar Löcher hineingebohrt. Außerdem, gibt es ja auch noch die Zugänge zum Gehege. Hier habe ich extra 2 Zugänge gemacht, da die Meerschweinchen sich auch einfach mal ins Rohr setzen und somit den Weg für die anderen blockieren.
As you can see in the second picture, the box is also well accepted. The bedding has to be completely changed at least once a week.
The box consists of a wooden frame with approx. 50 mm insulation on all sides. I have drilled a few holes in it for ventilation. There are also the entrances to the enclosure. I made 2 extra entrances here, as the guinea pigs sometimes just sit down in the pipe and block the way for the others.
Zur Verbindung zum Gehege habe ich zwei Kunststoff-Abwasserrohre verwendet. Eines im Durchmesser 90 mm für die Kurzhaar-Meerschweinchen und eines im Durchmesser 110 mm für die langhaarigen.
I used two plastic waste pipes to connect to the enclosure. One with a diameter of 90 mm for the short-haired guinea pigs and one with a diameter of 110 mm for the long-haired ones.
Gefüttert wird aber immer noch im Gehege und nicht in der Box. Das Essen ist auch immer noch die Lieblingsbeschäftigung der Tiere. Sobald neues Futter gebracht wird, wird auch schon darüber hergefallen.

Demnächst wird aber wieder weiter gewerkelt an dem Gehege. Ein paar Dinge müssen noch verbessert werden. Es hat sich gezeigt, das es feucht wird im Gehege. Zum einen durch Schlagregen und zum anderen durch Kondensatbildung am Kunststoffdach.
Allerdings haben wir hier auch schon seit Monaten eine beschissene Wetterlage. In den nächsten Tagen soll es aber endlich aufhören zu regnen.
Die neue isolierte Box ist aber vollkommen trocken.
