Food Sharing #211 - Bornga @ Haymarket, Australia

Hi Everyone,

On a rare date night out with hubby, we decided to go to Haymarket in Sydney which is also known as Chinatown as it used to have the most Asian stores in the one place. Haymarket used to be my favourite place to find cool restaurants as it is close to work, has reasonable parking rates on the weekends and I can stock up on Asian groceries while I’m there. But as more Asian shops are opening in the suburbs and with COVID happening, we haven’t been to Chinatown for a long time. So on this rare outing, hubby and I thought we should go to a new restaurant and out the many opened over the last year or two, we chose Borgna.

Borgna has been rated highly by friends so we thought we should go and check it out. First thing we noticed when we arrived the place was packed with people and everyone was having a good time. Thats a good sign! We didn’t have a booking and luckily there was a seat for us. We were told to scan the QR code given for our table and order food from the webpage which is connected to our table. The menu was simple, little just one page of food. The restaurant made the ordering easy and also for themselves, they need to prep less unlike other restaurants where they need to prepare for many choices they offer. We ordered beef rib, pork belly with cuts and cold buckwheat noodles with soup.

Like most Korean restaurants, we were given lots of different side dishes. The most impressive one has to the be lettuce/veggie tray with a range of different leaves. The side dishes were very generous size and most of them were very tasty. I in particular love the soy bean sauce given to us on the side, mixed well with the meat.

The food came quickly and our hot plate has been set up for us. The meat we ordered were substantial and was very tender. It was a good idea to order one beef and one pork to change this up a bit. The cold buckwheat noodles with soup huge. The soup came out still ice which was perfect as we can eat it while we have the bbq meat. The soup base is beef based so the taste blends in with the meat. Between the two of us, we were able to have around 2.5 bowls of needles each.

There were plenty of seats at this restaurant but on a weekday it was a full house so I can imagine the weekend could be worse. Service was great as we get the same server the whole way through and get checked on to see if we want any help with cooking every so often as it is part of the service but we prefer to cook ourselves. As we were leaving, we saw a very nice Hanbok on the wall and that was like a centrepiece at the waiting area of the restaurants. Highly recommended for those who want a nice Korean BBQ meal, you won’t be disappointed.
