Turkish Kunefe - Sweet cheese pastry

img_3320.jpeg

Good morning guys!

Turkish cuisine is one of the leading tastes in the world. Very rich in dessert. Turkish desserts are very diverse.

I’m here today with one of my favorite desserts. Perfect harmony of cheese and dessert. Of course I’m talking about kunefe. Kunefe is one of the Turkish desserts made with syrup. It has a very well balanced combination of cheese and sugar, so it’s not heavy and you can even ask for a second plate! What makes this dessert different from other desserts is that it must be eaten hot, right after it is cooked. Kunefe is a dessert from Hatay (Antioch) a city on the South of Turkey.

Ingredients
•Syrup (made with sugar, water and lemon)
•kadayif
•cheese
•butter

Make the syrup first. Sugar, water and a slice of lemon in a sauce pan. Let it simmer for 15 minutes. Let it cool completely.

Melt the butter.

Pour butter over shredded kadayifs and blend.

Apply butter under the pan. We added some molasses.

Place the first layer in a pan. Then shred some unsalted cheese over it and cover it.

Add the remaining kadayif on the cheeses. Using your hands, press on it well so that everything sets well.

Bake the kunefe in the oven for browning.

Pour cold syrup over the dessert when it is still hot.

You can die for the moment when the cheese inside melts by the time you grab a piece with a fork.

Garnish with peanuts, walnuts or hazelnuts and serve immediately.

I hope you like my recipe. See you in the next post. Take care of yourselves!
