"Koi", es una panadería, restaurante y café ubicado en el Rattan Hypermarket, de la Avenida 4 de Mayo en mi linda Isla de Margarita, que conocí hace un tiempo ya en las jornadas de Ajedrez en las que participa mi hijo Matías, ya que ese es uno de los lugares donde generalmente se realizan.
Como ya les he comentado, se trata de jornadas bastante largas por lo que toca de alguna manera buscar un lugar para comer, merendar, tomar un cafecito o simplemente descansar mientras Matías juega, tratando de siempre de mantenerme en el edificio donde están los chicos o por lo menos lo más cerca posible y Koi al estar justo dentro de Rattan, sin dudas era buena opción y de hecho he ido en varias oportunidades pero había olvidado por completo hacerles la reseña.
Como les comento en el primer párrafo, se trata de una panadería, restaurante y café, o sea casi que todo en uno, algo que es muy común ahorita en nuestro país, donde buena parte de los locales de comida se diversifican tratando de tener más ventas al ofrecer variedad de productos, cosa que la verdad toca evaluar muy bien ya que cubren distintas áreas y definitivamente pienso que deberían concentrarse en una especialidad para ofrecer calidad.
En fin, recuerdo que la primera vez que decidí probar su comida fue justamente justamente el primer torneo de ajedrez en el que participó mi hijo, momento en que descubrí que las jornadas no duraban dos o tres horas como en la mayoría de las disciplinas que había practicado hasta ahora, sino que eran jornadas de nueve horas, dos días seguidos, así que sí o sí, tocaba comer algo, por lo que inevitablemente había que pasar por Koi a probar.
Es un espacio abierto, con mesas tipo comedor americano con bancos, que se encuentra abierto hacia el supermercado, con una ambientación tipo zen diría yo más que japonesa como tal, un ambiente relajante y bastante tranquilo y acogedor, la verdad nos ha servido de mucho durante las jornadas.
Yo diría que su especialidad es la panadería, ya que desde que entras es lo primero que puedes apreciar, incluso en su gran mostrador puedes ver una variedad de pastelitos, pastas secas, postres y dulces típicos de las panaderías, además de tortas y bebidas, pero aparte de esto, ofrecen hamburguesas, sándwiches, empanadas e incluso menús compuestos por lo que llaman aquí "seco y mojado" (sopa, plato fuerte, jugo y a veces hasta postre).
Los precios son bastante accesibles, o por lo menos se mantienen en el mismo rango de precios de lugares similares a ellos por lo que no los veo mal, ya que hay opciones para todos los presupuestos.
Hasta ahora he probado las hamburguesas y los pastelitos de masa de hojaldre y lamentablemente ninguna de las dos cosas me ha gustado, les falta mucha sazón además que tienen un problema serio con las proporciones, ya que por ejemplo las hamburguesas terminaron siendo más pan que otra cosa, ya que la carne aparte de súper delgada era muy pequeña para el tamaño del pan y en cuanto al pastelito, entre el grueso de la masa y la poca cantidad de relleno la verdad la experiencia no fue nada buena.
He quedado pendiente en probar los postres a ver si por lo menos estos los redimen un poco, pero la verdad me ha dado dolor gastar dinero en algo que muy posiblemente no me guste y termino optando por algún snack de los muchos que ofrece el supermercado para no llevarme más decepciones, pero quizá un día me anime y ojalá me sorprendan gratamente porque tienen buena pinta.
Por ahora solo lo visitamos para tomar agüita o alguna bebida envasada, conversar y pasar el rato mientras se desarrollan las partidas de los chicos.
¿Lo recomiendo? La verdad es que no, por lo menos en lo que respecta a comida como tal, desde mi punto de vista no es una buena opción, espero pronto darle noticias de los postres.

As I have already told you, these are quite long days so I have to find a place to eat, have a snack, have a coffee or just rest while Matias plays, always trying to stay in the building where the kids are or at least as close as possible and Koi being right inside Rattan, was undoubtedly a good option and in fact I have been there several times but I had completely forgotten to review it.
As I mentioned in the first paragraph, it is a bakery, restaurant and cafe, that is almost all in one, something that is very common now in our country, where most of the food places diversify trying to have more sales by offering a variety of products, something that is really important to evaluate very well since they cover different areas and I definitely think they should focus on a specialty to offer quality.
Anyway, I remember that the first time I decided to try their food was precisely the first chess tournament in which my son participated, when I discovered that the days did not last two or three hours as in most of the disciplines I had practiced so far, but were nine-hour days, two days in a row, so yes or yes, I had to eat something, so inevitably I had to stop by Koi to try it.
It is an open space, with American style dining tables with benches, which is open to the supermarket, with a zen-like atmosphere I would say more than Japanese as such, a relaxing and quite quiet and cozy atmosphere, the truth has served us a lot during the days.
I would say that their specialty is the bakery, since from the moment you enter is the first thing you can appreciate, even in its large counter you can see a variety of pastries, dried pasta, desserts and sweets typical of bakeries, plus cakes and drinks, but apart from this, they offer burgers, sandwiches, pies and even menus composed of what they call here "dry and wet" (soup, main course, juice and sometimes even dessert).
The prices are quite affordable, or at least they stay in the same price range of similar places so I do not see them bad, as there are options for all budgets.
So far I have tried the hamburgers and the puff pastries and unfortunately neither of the two things I liked, they lack a lot of seasoning plus they have a serious problem with the proportions, since for example the burgers ended up being more bread than anything else, since the meat besides being super thin was very small for the size of the bread and as for the pastry, between the thickness of the dough and the small amount of filling the experience was not good at all.
I have been waiting to try the desserts to see if at least these redeem them a little, but the truth is that it has given me pain to spend money on something that I may not like and I end up opting for some snack of the many that the supermarket offers to avoid more disappointments, but maybe one day I will cheer up and hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised because they look good.
For now we only visit it to drink some water or a bottled drink, chat and hang out while the kids' games are going on.
Do I recommend it? Not really, at least as far as food is concerned, from my point of view it is not a good option, I hope to soon give you news of the desserts.
