Have you tried to make gram flour pancakes? We call it Besan chilla in India. It is a delicious healthy Indian pancake made with gram flour, tomatoes, onions, garted carrot , finely chopped capsicum and any of your favorite vegetables to make it more healthy, protein rich and nutritious. It is a quick breakfast or late night snack.

I actually make besan chilla often ,when I realized there is nothing to make in my kitchen or have no time to make any food in hurry.

There are many variations to make besan chilla. My Mother use to make including just the spicies, no onion and tomatoes. But I love to add both onions and tomatoes in my Chilla recipe. Apart from veggies, you can add spinach(palak), grated Cabbage and garted cucumber.
I assure you the chilla will taste delicious.

So here we go-
Ingredients
●gram flour
●salt
●green chilli and red chilli powder
●veggies (your wish) I took capsicum, onion, tomatoes, grated carrot and grated cucumber.
●green coriander leaves
●turmeric
●Carom seeds

Preparation for the batter

■In a bowl first add 1 garted cucumber.

■then in same bowl add 1 cup gram flour, finely chopped capsicum, finely chopped onions , tomatoes, and grated carrot, finely chopped green chilli, coriander leaves, carom seeds, pinch of turmeric, salt (as required) and red Chilli powder.
it's important to make sure that all the veggies are finely chopped, otherwise it becomes difficult to spread the pancake in pan.

■Now add half cup Water to combine the ingredients. Use a whisk or big spatula to combine all the ingredients. Add little water depending on the texture of the besan batter. Don't add water at a time. We have to see the consistency of the batter .

■continue whisking until we get a smooth flowing consistency without any lumps.

■I used a fast tawa or iron pan . You can use any frying or nonstick pan .

■Now heat the pan on a medium low flame and spread little oil on tawa or pan before adding the batter. Take a ladle full of batter and pour on center and spread it by it back. Gently spread it so that the chilla doesn't break.

■ cook on a low medium flame. Drizzle oil on the edges of the chilla all around while it is cooking to help it not to stick to the pan.
Cook till you get the golden brown color .

■ flip the chilla and cook nicely from.both the sides.Continue to make all the pancakes in this way.

■■Serve it hot as soon as they are made with green coriander and mint chutney or any chutney any dip of your wish or with tomato ketchup.

If you are unable to find besan or gram flour, then take chickpea flour.
It is the best gram flour substitute
. (But besan has a great taste).
This recipe is good for weightloss if you want to reduce the oil or make them without oil. Kids will love this too.
